In the world of luxury watches, some timepieces simply demand attention, and the latest gem-set offerings from Gerald Charles fall squarely into this category. The brand, known for its iconic Maestro case design and ties to the legendary designer Gerald Genta, has introduced a range of new models that seamlessly blend vibrant gemstones with technical excellence.

The Art Of Gem-Setting

The first thing that strikes you about these new timepieces is the array of precious gems that adorn their bezels. The Maestro 8.0 Squelette models, in particular, are a feast for the eyes, featuring an invisible setting of 66 baguette-cut stones in mesmerising shades of violet, orange, yellow, and blue sapphires. The irregular shape of the bezel presented a unique challenge for the artisans at Gerald Charles, requiring each stone to be meticulously cut and set by hand.

The Maestro 2.0 Ultra-Thin and Maestro GC Sport models also receive the gem-set treatment, with their steel bezels adorned with 52 round-cut gemstones. The Maestro 2.0 Ultra-Thin in Timeless Black features diamonds, while the Emerald Green version showcases tsavorite, and the Maestro GC Sport in Royal Blue is embellished with blue sapphires. The interplay of these precious gems against the backdrop of the sunburst dials creates a visual symphony that is both captivating and sophisticated.

Technical Excellence

While the gem-setting is undoubtedly the star of the show, these timepieces also showcase Gerald Charles’ commitment to horological excellence. The Squelette models are powered by the open-worked GCA 5482 calibre, featuring a decentred Rose Gold micro-rotor architecture. Meanwhile, the Maestro 2.0 gem-set models are equipped with the GCA 3002 calibre, which boasts a central oscillating mass with intricate decorations.

All models in the new gem-set collection offer an impressive 50-hour power reserve, ensuring reliable timekeeping and convenience for the wearer. Additionally, these timepieces boast a water resistance of 100m and a shock resistance of 5G.

Iconic Design

The iconic Maestro case, inspired by the architectural works of Francesco Borromini, serves as the perfect canvas for the vibrant gemstones. The case dimensions are consistent across the models, with both the Maestro 8.0 Squelette and the Maestro 2.0 Ultra-Thin measuring 39mm x 41mm. The Maestro GC Sport also shares these dimensions. However, the thickness varies between the models. The introduction of new vulcanised rubber strap options in Optical White, Coral Red, Yellow Sunshine, and Ice Blue for the Squelette models, and Timeless Black, Emerald Green, and Royal Blue for the Ultra-Thin and GC Sport models, adds a playful and modern twist to the overall design.

Carrying Forward Genta’s Legacy

These new gem-set timepieces are a testament to Gerald Charles’ commitment to carrying forward the creative vision of its founder, Gerald Genta. As Federico Ziviani, CEO of Gerald Charles, states, “These new timepieces are meant to continue with its playful path and its initial spirit of using bright colours like a painter does for his paintings. Indeed, Mr. Genta considered his creations as artworks, some of which even carry the designer’s signature on the caseback.”

The Maestro 8.0 Squelette gem-set models are limited to 10 pieces per variant, while the Maestro 2.0 Ultra-Thin and Maestro GC Sport gem-set models will be a part of the regular collection.
