Perrelet: The Inventor of Self-Winding Movements
Swiss watchmaking brand Perrelet embodies the art of ancient horology with a modern twist. Since its inception in 1777, Perrelet went on to create a rich heritage of horological excellence and innovation. The brand's signature design features a distinctive rotor on the dial, which pays homage to the pioneering invention of the automatic winding mechanism by founder Abraham-Louis Perrelet. He also developed the first mechanical pedometer and watchmaker to craft watches with cylinder, duplex, calendar, and equation escapements.
The legacy of Louis-Perrelet was carried by his grandson, Louis-Frederic Perrelet, who was appointed watchmaker to the King of France, and went on to exhibit his first astronomical watch in 1815. After a decade, Louis received the patent for his “fly-back chronograph counter”.
After working in the shadows for over a century, Perrelet resurfaced in 1995. To celebrate this milestone, Perrelet launched the Double Rotor that was equipped with a single rotor on the dial side and one on the movement. This timepiece was made in collaboration with master watchmaker, Paul Gerber.
Perrelet watches are crafted with the finest materials, including precious metals and high-tech ceramics, and are equipped with sophisticated movements—assembled and finished by hand. Each timepiece is a masterpiece of precision and style, designed to appeal to discerning collectors and enthusiasts of intricacies in watchmaking.
From classic dress watches to sporty chronographs, Perrelet collections cater to different tastes and lifestyles. Their flagship collection, Turbine, is a testament to its commitment to innovation, with its unique spinning rotor that creates a mesmerising visual effect.
Perrelet Timepieces
Since the 1990s, Perrelet has garnered attention for avant-garde philosophy while designing their timepieces. This approach has led to the creation of timepieces such as the Turbine and the First Class Double Rotor.
Under the Classics collection, the timepieces are divided into three categories—the Weekend, First Class, and Diamond Forever. The Weekend are a set of simplistic timepieces with a clutter-less dial and is available in a GMT, Open Heart, and Three Hands configuration. Whereas, the First Class series features a rotor on the dial side making it the only timepiece to do so. For women, the Diamond Forever offers an elegant yet innovative set of timepieces with diamonds fitted either on the dial or the bezel.
The Turbine collection is a unique set of timepieces that display a rotating turbine on the dial side, available in various configurations such as GMT, Pilot, Yacht Diver, Chrono, and an Erotic variant.
The arsenal also consists of the Lab Peripheral collection—a set of timepieces that solidify the brand’s avant-garde nature with their unconventional case shapes. These timepieces are available in two configurations—Dual Time Big Date and Three Hands & Date.
