Tutima - A New Reckoning Of Time
Born inside the city of timepieces, Tutima started their journey with affection towards wristwatches during the era of pocket watches in Glashütte, Germany. Founded in 1927, Tutima began as the namesake given to watches produced by Uhren-Rohwerke-Fabrik Glashütte AG (UROFA) and Uhrenfabrik Glashütte AG. These watches were created under the aegis of Dr Ernst Kurtz.
The 1920s was an era where devastating war kept the once brimming industries in shambles and the watchmaking industry was also not spared. Even during these times, the passion for crafting safe and reliable timepieces did not vanish. The brand's name is derived from the Latin word "tutus," which means safe or secure, and "ima," which means maximum. This name reflects the brand's commitment to producing watches of the highest quality and reliability.
During the Second World War, Tutima started to produce pilot watches for Luftwaffe pilots. It was during that time Tutima garnered a passionate set of followers. After the war, Tutima shifted its factory Glashutte to Ganderkesee because of the Russian occupation of East Germany. During this era, Tutima crafted mostly military spec watches especially for NATO pilots during the 1980s.
