The month of May 2022 has been a tremendous one for celebrity appearances on the red carpet. It started with the Met Gala on the first Monday of May, like every year. Then there were a number of premieres and other events, and finally, the Cannes Film Festival, which concluded just last week. Watches were spotted aplenty, as several actors and other international celebrities sported the usual suspects—several Rolexes, Patek Philippes, Cartiers and Audemars Piguets were seen. One lovely surprise was actor Tom Cruise wearing a Vacheron Constantin Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin, as he showed up for his latest film, Top Gun: Maverick, at the Cannes Film Festival. Celebrity power couple Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds definitely made waves with their appearance at the 2022 Met Gala earlier this month. While Lively stole the show with her jaw-dropping presence and poise, Reynolds also looked sharp, and had a shiny little thing tucked under his sleeve—the new Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch in Moonshine gold. Jeremy Strong usually makes a marked appearance with a few evident quirks in his ensembles, which are very different from those sported by his Kendall Logan in Succession. The Emmy winner tends to favour earthy hues in some elements of his dressing. The actor, who is usually seen wearing Longines’ HydroConquest or Spirit watches in their campaign visuals, opted for a blue-strapped DolceVita at the Met Gala 2022. While the hues of the rectangular timepiece paired well with Page’s blue ensemble, the DolceVita’s understated elegance offset the bling of his jacket, brooch and earring.

It was hence fitting that star Benedict Cumberbatch wore the watch at the premiere of the Marvel film released this month. Omar Sy, the star of another hit show from Netflix, Lupin, was spotted at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this month, wearing a Hublot Big Bang Square Bang. The actor, who made an impact with his leading role in the French heist series, made in appearance in Cannes for his film Tirailleurs, which was being screened at the prestigious festival. He sported a casual attire at this event, including a floral shirt, and complemented it with the Square Bang edition of Hublot’s Big Bang, which the brand launched earlier this year at Watches and Wonders Geneva. Sy was seen wearing the watch with a black-tie ensemble on a separate occasion as well.

Lewis Hamilton At The ‘Big Pilot Challenge’
Held around the inaugural edition of the Miami Grand Prix, in Florida, USA, the ‘Big Pilot Challenge’ was hosted by IWC at the Miami Beach Golf Club. The event featured Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton—also an IWC brand ambassador—as well as other famous sportspersons, who went up against each other in a friendly golfing competition, wearing IWC Pilot’s Watches. The timepieces worn were to be auctioned to raise funds for the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, to help them support non-profit organisations around the Miami region.
