About the Nomos Glashutte Tetra Collection

Being part of the original lineup in 1991, the Nomos Glashütte Tetra collection is an elegant tribute to the allure of square watches, a distinctive characteristic among Nomos timepieces. The name Tetra, meaning "four" in Greek, embodies its geometric charm and superior craftsmanship. Drawing inspiration from Bauhaus minimalism, this collection merges classic design with contemporary flair, catering to enthusiasts who cherish both traditional and modern aesthetics.

Design And Aesthetics

What sets the Tetra collection apart is its striking square silhouette, boldly challenging the conventions of round watches. The clean, linear design exemplifies minimalist beauty, yet allows for a creative twist with a variety of dial colours. From timeless white to lively shades like matcha green, azure blue, and grenadine red, Tetra's aesthetic is both sophisticated and adaptable. The thoughtfully designed lugs create an optical illusion that gives the watch a delicate appearance while ensuring durability, contributing to its overall slender and chic profile.

Movements

Each watch in the Tetra lineup is powered by exemplary movements available in both manual and automatic options. The manual models utilise the dependable Alpha calibre, celebrated for its precision. Additionally, the collection features the ultra-slim DUW 3001 automatic calibre, a testament to Nomos' technical prowess. This movement not only enhances the watch's refined look but also guarantees remarkable performance with a substantial power reserve.

Iterations

The Tetra collection offers a range of models, each showcasing distinctive features and design elements. Fairly recent additions include vibrant pink-dialed versions unveiled during the Salone del Mobile Milano in 2023. Designed by Thomas Höhnel, these contemporary models exemplify a modern colour palette while maintaining the collection's minimalist spirit. Each piece is adorned with evocative names like "Die Wildentschlossene" (The Fiercely Determined) and "Die Unerreichbare" (The Unattainable), adding a layer of narrative depth to their elegant design.

ABOUT THE MOVEMENT

Guided by the principles of simplicity and performance, German watchmaker Nomos from Glashutte continue to draw appreciation for their in-house movements and the creation of an in-house escapement called the Swing system. This journey of vertical integration began with the launch of their first in-house calibre, Alpha, in 2005. This manual-wound mechanism was, at the time, one of the best mechanical movements globally and maintains this standing even today.

With just 2.6mm thickness, Alpha is an exceptionally slim movement, a tradition that the brand have endured through all their other in-house calibres. Its performance is close to chronometer standards, featuring the signature Glashütte three-quarter plate and stopwork. It powers traditional timekeeping functions along with a stop-seconds mechanism for approximately 43 hours once fully wound. Most of the brand's repertoire benefits from this calibre, including Club, Metro, Tangente, Ludwig, Orion, and Tetra.
