About the Baume & Mercier Clifton Collection
Baume & Mercier’s Clifton collection was introduced in 2013 as part of the brand’s efforts to offer contemporary watches that still retain the elegance of traditional Swiss watchmaking. The Clifton line was designed to appeal to modern professionals and watch enthusiasts who value both functionality and timeless aesthetics. The collection quickly gained recognition for its well-balanced mix of casual and formal elements, positioning itself as a versatile option for those looking for everyday luxury. Over time, the collection has grown to include more advanced complications, reflecting the brand’s dedication to fine craftsmanship and innovation.
Design And Aesthetics
The Clifton collection is known for its sleek, modern design, with subtle nods to vintage watches from the mid-20th century. The cases are round, with sizes ranging from 39mm to 45mm, providing options that suit various wrist sizes and preferences. The polished and satin-finished cases add an element of refinement, while the smooth, rounded lugs offer comfort and elegance. The dials are often simple and uncluttered, featuring sunburst or satin finishes with applied indexes, Arabic numerals, or Roman numerals, depending on the model. The collection’s design ethos centres on achieving a balance between sophistication and everyday practicality, making Clifton timepieces suitable for any occasion. Many models in the Clifton collection come with open casebacks to showcase the mechanical movements, a testament to Baume & Mercier’s commitment to horological artistry. The watches are paired with leather straps or stainless steel bracelets, further enhancing the luxurious feel.
Iterations
The Clifton collection has evolved to include a range of complications, making it a diverse and technically impressive line. One of the standout models is the Clifton Baumatic, introduced in 2018, which houses Baume & Mercier’s first in-house movement, the Baumatic calibre BM12-1975A. This self-winding calibre boasts a five-day power reserve, anti-magnetic properties, and impressive accuracy. In addition to the Baumatic models, the Clifton collection includes chronographs, dual time, and moonphase complications. The Clifton Perpetual Calendar, with its highly complex movement, offers one of the most prestigious complications in horology, demonstrating Baume & Mercier’s prowess in watchmaking.

ABOUT THE MOVEMENT
Hailing from the Bautamic family tree of in-house automatic movements, BM13-1975A is based on the BM12 calibre. This Swiss-made movement boasts a power reserve of a whopping 120 hours standing par with the rest of the calibres under the Baumatic umbrella. The present version is COSC-certified and supports the functioning of the basic three-central hands and date display. The 21 jewels not only reduce friction between the components but also also double as a decoration on the movement.
