Released on the occasion of its 40th Anniversary, Rolex introduced its Datejust in 1945 as the first ever series that also displayed the date along with the time. Since then Presidents, sportsmen and other personas who have etched their names in history have adorned this timepiece.
The Rolex M116203-72603_ BRONZE ARAB features a classic round, chocolate coloured dial of 36 mm, with prominent Arabic numerals and a date display at 3’ o clock and the Rolex insignia at 12’o clock. A case window made of scratch-resistant sapphire crystal also enhances sunlight legibility due to the material’s anti-reflective property while at the same time keeps your watch in pristine condition for years. The date window features a Cyclops lens over it for easy reading.
The strap and case are both made of an enchanting combination of steel and gold. The watchband is an elegant president style bracelet with a deployant clasp. Stick style hour, minute and second hands tick to keep you bang on time.
Moreover there are additional seconds markers outlining the dial of the watch for precise and effortless timekeeping.
A clever amalgamation of style and substance, the watch displays water–resistance to a depth of 100 metres. An automatic movement allows the device to harness energy from your wrist movements to function. The watch is chronometer certified by The COSC, which means that it functions reliably regardless of external elements in the environment such as wind and resistance.
Rolex is the only watch brand that combines high-end luxury with a manufacturing prowess of 2000 watches a day.
In the highly successful movie, American Psycho, the protagonist Patrick Bateman wears a Rolex Datejust. The famed actor Pawl Newman also wore a Datejust in the hit movie, Color of Money while actor and comedian Bill Murray could be seen sporting one in the movie Lost In Translation.
The Datejust collection was introduced by Rolex in the year 1945. This was the first wristwatch to display automatically changing date through an opening on the dial.
Featuring a classic design and iconic style, the Datejust features a date window located at the 3 o’clock position for your ease in viewing. The date aperture showcases the Cyclops lens on the top, the most distinctive feature of Rolex watches. This lens magnifies the date by approximately two and half times for clear legibility. The watches in this collection have an oyster case, which is clamped shut and extremely robust. The core of the oyster consists of a screw-down case and a signed screw-down crown with twinlock system. This system renders the watches water-resistant up to 100 metres, enabling you to wear them for poolside swimming and snorkelling. The Datejust watches come with two classic Rolex bracelets, either the Jubilee or the Oyster. The Jubilee is a five-piece metal link bracelet with a concealed Crownclasp fitted at the end, and the Oyster is a broad three-piece metal link bracelet, which is quite popular because of its classic appeal. These watches have a standard 36 mm case, and are equipped with a self-winding mechanical movement manufactured by Rolex, the calibre 3135.
A Datejust was presented to an eminent gentleman by Hans Wilsdorf in 1947, on the 100,000th officially certified chronometer celebrated by the brand. The identity of this gentleman has not been revealed till this day. Christian Bale was seen wearing the Rolex Datejust 16013, in the movie American Pyscho. A Datejust has also been worn by Paul Newman in the movie The Color of Money, Bill Murray in the film Lost in Translation, and by various male characters in The Informers.
