About the Arnold & Son Nebula Collection

History

Back when Arnold & Son was getting recognised for its aesthetically pleasing timepieces, the brand was already in motion to create a few more. In 2016, with the concept of symmetry back in their head Arnold & Son launched the Nebula collection.

The Features

According to the Esquire, the skeletonisation of dials goes back to the 1760s. Coincidentally, it was the same decade when Arnold & Son was founded. The revival of the hand skeletonisation was amidst the quartz crisis and after a decade, again coincidentally, Arnold & Son was revived. Probably, these coincidences coincide with the inception of the Nebula. ‘Nebula Is a cloud of cosmic dust protruding from a dying star where new stars are born. Arnold & Son tried to depict the stellar explosion on the dial with the seven bridges expanding from the centre to the perimeter of the dial, thus the name Nebula. On the other side of the coin, Arnold & Son also boasts about the symmetrical dimensions of the collection. The well-tailored ratios of diameter to height, size and encampment of every gear and wheel shine a light on the equilibrium created by the Arnold & Son Nebula collection. Whereas, Nebula clouds are known for their free-flow artistic forms. Probably it is in the mystic nature of the cosmos that the dichotomy between equilibrium and progeny is illuminated in these timepieces.

Features

Equipped with one of the most popular calibres by Arnold & Son, the A&S5101 is a manually winding movement with a power reserve of 90 hours. Carved entirely from the ground up, the Arnold & Son Nebula collection showcases its mechanical dexterity in a skeletonised version. The combination of two mainsprings fitted at 10 and 2 o’clock helps this hand-wound movement with a power reserve of 90 hours. The function of two mainsprings fitted inside a single movement is to provide the mechanism with constant torque that usually diminishes as the mainspring loses its energy whilst unwinding. Whereas, the duty of handling the seconds department is imparted to the small seconds dial fitted at 7 o’clock. To balance out the aesthetics of the openwork movement, the balance mechanism is fitted at 4 o’clock.

ABOUT THE MOVEMENT

The idea of combining the concepts of outer space into horology might not be new but it is still very much in fashion. One such timepiece is the Arnold & Son Nebula, a watch that resembles a Nebula with the help of its movement’s components. Inside the Nebula is the manual-winding movement, the A&S5101. The A&S5101 offers a power reserve of approximately 90 hours while the vibrating frequency is at 21,600 vph. Fitted with two barrels, the A&S5101 offers constant torque throughout the cycle of power delivery imparting optimum precision.
