About the Nomos Glashutte Tangente Collection

Launched in 1992, the Nomos Glashütte Tangente collection epitomises the brand's commitment to Bauhaus-inspired design principles, marrying function with aesthetic purity. The name “Tangente” reflects the idea of tangents in geometry—lines that touch curves without intersecting. This notion captures the minimalist ethos of the collection, emphasising clean lines and an uncluttered dial. The Tangente watches serve as a celebration of classic watchmaking, offering a timeless appeal while also showcasing Nomos’ unique design language.

Design And Aesthetics

The design of the Tangente collection is marked by its striking simplicity and elegance. Characterised by its thin, round case and long, slender lugs, the watch features a minimalist dial with Arabic numerals at 12, three, six, and nine o’clock, enhancing readability while maintaining a sleek silhouette. The subtle guilloché texture of the dial, along with the distinctive elongated hands, adds depth to its appearance, creating a visual rhythm that is both harmonious and engaging. The collection comes in various sizes, with diameters typically ranging from 33mm to 41mm, catering to a wide audience while allowing for versatility in styling.

Movements And Iterations

At the heart of the Tangente collection lies Nomos' in-house movements, particularly the Alpha and DUW 3001 calibres. The Alpha movement, a manual-wind calibre, exemplifies traditional watchmaking techniques with its impressive precision and craftsmanship. The DUW 3001, on the other hand, represents Nomos’ automatic innovations, featuring a slim profile and an impressive power reserve of up to 43 hours.

The Tangente collection boasts several iterations, each offering unique elements while retaining the core aesthetic. The Tangente 33 serves as an entry-level option with a smaller case size, ideal for those who prefer a more delicate look. The Tangente Neomatik introduces an automatic variant, available in various colours, including classic white and striking blue dials. For a contemporary twist, the Tangente Sport models feature increased water resistance and more rugged construction. Additionally, limited editions, such as the Tangente 38, showcase Nomos' commitment to exclusivity and craftsmanship.

ABOUT THE MOVEMENT

Welcoming the new set of calibres known as ‘neomatiks’, the DUW 6101 along with the DUW 3001 were the first neomatik calibre made in-house by Nomos. Built from scratch, the DUW 6101 stands at a height of just 3.6mm. The built-in date mechanism delivers both aesthetics and tradition while bringing a sense of freedom to the movement. In terms of specs, the DUW 6101 provides a power reserve of approximately 42 hours, 27 jewels, and exquisite perlage decoration.
