About the Nomos Glashutte Tangente Collection

History

Nomos’s longest-running collection, the Nomos Glashutte Tangente collection was first launched in 1992. Since then, the collection has not received major changes but still remains the best-selling collection inside Nomos. With numerous awards under its belt, the Nomos Glashutte collection holds the distinction of being the most popular timepiece under Nomos. A few of the awards that have graced this collection are the Chrono Award, Uhr des Jahres Award, Golden Unruh Award, and the Viennatime award.

Features

The perfect combination of a modern classic, the Nomos Glashutte Tangente is more or less like that BMW R18 gurgling through the roads of Berlin. With a confident silhouette and clean aesthetics, the Tangente collection defines the Nomos DNA at its pinnacle The classic Tangente is reminiscent of the first Tangente launched with small seconds at 6 o’clock and slender tempered blue hands. On the contrary, the Tangente Sport neomatik 42 Date is equipped with a protected crown and offers 1000ft of water resistance. Whereas, the Nomos Tangente neomatik 41 Update series is equipped with a date ring on the outer dial. Also, the Tangente collection offers timepieces for smaller wrists with a case size of 32.8mm.

Movement

Talking about the mechanical dexterity of the brand, the Nomos Glashutte Tangente collection is equipped with precise movements like the DUW 3001. The mainstay of this collection is the DUW 6101. The DUW 6101 is the first neomatik calibre with a date function. Whereas, the DUW 4401 was the first calibre to feature Nomos’s signature escapement, the Swing System. The Tangente collection is also equipped with manually winded movements, the Alpha, the DUW 4301 and the Alpha.2.

ABOUT THE MOVEMENT

In 2014, Nomos created a buzz for elevating their in-house movement production by unveiling their own escapement called the Nomos Swing system. At the time and even today, while developing an in-house movement has become more common in the industry, creating a component as challenging and complex as an escapement is still rare. Hence, with the Swing system, Nomos hit the nail on the head. It is now widely used in most in-house calibres by the brand, including the manually-wound DUW 4101 that powers watches within the Tangente and Metro collections.

In addition to this trailblazing innovation, Calibre DUW 4101 includes Nomos' patented large date mechanism and has been adjusted to chronometer requisites. Measuring 2.8mm in height, this slender movement comes with the Glashütte three-quarter plate and stop work, 23 jewels, and bluish screws. It beats at a frequency of 3Hz, providing a power reserve of 42 hours. The view of this movement through the sapphire crystal caseback is rather enjoyable. From rhodium-plated surfaces to Glashütte ribbing and Nomos perlage, the craftsmanship delivered with this calibre is par excellence.
