Jaeger-LeCoultre, has since its foray into internationally acclaimed horological watch-making, been a stickler for incorporating exemplary technology and functionality into its time pieces. Providing impetus to the excellent craftsmanship display in creating new mechanisms are the inspirations behind these watches. Jaeger-LeCoultre’s first successful creation of the Memovox Deep Sea was in the year 1959. It launched this extraordinary series as a tribute to the divers. To display its unique personality, this was the first diver’s watch to be installed with an alarm function (calibre 815) that reminded divers when it was time to resurface. This was nothing short of revolutionary in the diver’s watch category and only about 1061 pieces were manufactured. To honour the aesthetics of this emblematic Memovox Deep Sea time piece, Jaeger-LeCoultre has introduced the Memovox Tribute to Deep Sea model, a new version in a new size.
The stainless steel case material which adorns the watch face is heavily water resistance to 10 bar/100 metres making it a quintessentially diver’s watch. Case diameter of the watch lies at 40.5 mm, fitting comfortably on the wrist. Under water diving requires luminescent hour markers and numerals for enhanced legibility which this time piece happily provides on an elegant black dial. Skeletonized baton hands adorn the dial to ensure its trendy appeal. The straps are fashioned from calfskin leather.
The Memovox tribute to Deep Sea 2028440 is an exceptional time piece driven by a self winding movement, the Calibre Jaeger-LeCoultre 956. This calibre is reportedly the latest modified version of the acclaimed Memovox movement with alarm function that the 1959 Memovox Deep Sea was attributed with. It beats efficiently at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and has a power reserve of 45 hours. The watch calls for 23 jewels in its making and has a standard height of 7.45mm. It proudly presents the hour-minute and seconds function intoned with an alarm function that serves as a requisite for a diver.
Jaegar Le-Coultre and Aston Martin, two behemoths in their respective industries came together in 2004 to share their common expertise in matters of design and technical excellence to create the Amvox collection. In as early as 1920, Jaeger and LeCoultre exported more than 20,000 counters to the UK. In 1921, the duo started a workshop in London which specialized in automotive dashboard instruments. This led to the Aston Martin LM from the 1930’s being equipped with Jaeger instruments. The two realized their joint dream of innovation par excellence by 2004 and joined hands to create a stunner of a time-piece, the AMVOX1 alarm, inspired by the 1956 Memevox which contained the automatic Memevox calibre.
Amvox watches are known for their concentric ring displays on the face, with different numeral sizes characteristic to the dial. Even numbers are painted visibly bigger than odd hour-markers; this clears up space and confers greater readability. The watches design and use of material highlights significantly its bond with Aston Martin. The leather straps used for the collection are the exact material also used in the Aston Marin cars.
The Amvox was a product of the joint collaboration between the head-haunchos of two technology based industries. This line was created to merit racing and cars designed by Aston Martin. The A and the M stand for the initials of Aston Martin, the vox gives due credit to the memevox calibre. The AMVOX2 Chronograph portrays superior technology disguised in deceptive simplicity. With this new innovation, the chronograph can be manipulated simply by pressing on the Sapphire crystal of the watch case, disregarding the need to manually press stop, start and reset buttons. The AMVOX3 Tourbillon GMT has many unbeatable characteristics such as the first ever round ceramic case by the brand, the in-house automatic Calibre 988 tourbillon movement and a patented high-tech oscillating weight to improve winding movement. The alarm disc in the middle dial of the JLC AMVOX1 R-Alarm is inspired by the radiator grille of the Aston Martin DBR9. This is quintessentially a driver’s watch through and through.

With the amvox series , JLC has re incarnated major classics with technological advancements and preserving the vintage authenticity.
Featurewise, this timepiece is a must for divers with the bold time elapsed indicating diver bezel, black dial with luminescent markers for enhanced visibility, crosshair design for the alarm dial, and to it all the smooth calfskin leather strap .
Pros: Reputed Swiss brand (amongst the top 5),a conversation starter between peers, reliable automatic movement with around 40hrs power reserve, a piece of history (reincarnated), alarm function (sure to wake up sloths even)
Cons: 39mm dial might seem small, JLC trusted dealers are few (ethos is the prominent one,on the expensive side
If you are a vintage fan and want to invest in a piece of history revamped to the latest technology go for the watch.its a worthwhile investment which had the potential to get multiplied in its value.
