“Century” was a limited edition self-winding chronometer wristwatch launched in 1948 to celebrate the brand’s glorious 100 years. It has been known to be the progenitor of the constellation range launched in 1952. One of the major breakthroughs by the company happened in 1982 when The Constellation Manhattan range incorporated “griffes” or claws, for holding the sapphire crystal in place to ensure durability.
The Constellation Quartz 35 MM 220.127.116.11.02.002 model was launched as a part of Omega’s most iconic range and makes use of the same four claws feature for additional aesthetic value.
The range symbolises the Cupola of the Geneva Observatory, the site where Omega had reset its own record for precision in 1951.
Presented in two tones, the watch is crafted of stainless steel and yellow gold. The two metals perfectly complement each other to provide for a remarkably elegant appearance. Made for men, the timepiece exudes a masculine charm because of the engravings on the 18k yellow gold stationary bezel. The dial contained within the 35 mm case is white in colour and has been adorned with raised stick indexes as hour markers for clear readability. A domed, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment inside virtually eliminates glare and increases readability. The bracelet is customisable and can provide a perfect fit. Easy fastening and removal is ensured by the use of a push button foldover clasp. There is a date window at the 3 o’clock position, which changes the date instantaneously for precision.
An end of life indicator demonstrates the battery life. Being water resistant to a depth of 100 metres, the watch can still be worn during activities like snorkelling and swimming. The Omega 1532 caliber powers the watch and makes it exceptionally accurate and reliable. This Quartz precision movement has been plated with Rhodium for corrosion resistivity and can function for 25 months on a single battery.
The Constellation Collection by Omega was launched in 1952, has since been renowned for its ultra precise movements and elegantly refined cases. Century, a limited edition wristwatch unveiled in 1948 on the firm’s 100th anniversary, is the progenitor of the collection. Due to the overwhelming response received by this watch, the brand launched the Constellation collection, which imbibed the same qualities. In 1982, the Constellation “Manhattan” was launched, with which the four claws or “griffes” were introduced that keeps the sapphire crystal case intact to securely render the watch waterproof.
The Omega Constellation collection has been exemplified in several sub collections that include the Gents’ Collection, Ladies’ Collection, Orbis Constellation Star, Sedna, and the Luxury Edition. The watches in the Gents’ collection feature distinctive design factors – the renowned claws on the case, horizontal links for utmost comfort, and a Constellation star, which is situated at the 6o’ clock position. Featuring a vast range of watches with different sizes, metals, dials, and diamond options to choose from, the Ladies’ Collection contains at least one watch to suit every wrist. The Orbis Constellation Star supports Orbis International – which gives advanced eye care to some of the most inaccessible regions in the world, and it’s Flying Eye Hospital. An 18-carat rose gold alloy, consisting of copper, palladium, and at least 75% gold, has been used to craft the Constellation Sedna. This breathtaking alloy adds an innovative and stunning appeal to the watch, giving it a long lasting rose-coloured hue. The magnificent Omega Constellation Luxury Edition watches showcase multitude of diamonds in spectacular supernova pattern, which dazzles the eyes of the onlooker.
A gold Omega Constellation “Manhattan” was worn by the former president of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev. One of the 20th century’s most popular musicians, cultural icon, actor, and American singer, Elvis Presley had worn a black-dialled Constellation Calendar.
