Launched in 2007, the Ballon Bleu de Cartier symbolises the brand’s prowess in aesthetics, with its unique design made to resemble a delicate, floating balloon. The latter part of the collection’s name is attributable to the dash of blue added to the ensemble by the distinctive crown. With watches for both men and women, the collection offers a large variety, sure to meet the requirements of the pickiest of watch enthusiast.

The Ballon Bleu de Cartier model number W69011Z4 for women has a steel case with 36mm diameter crafted into the double rounded pebble shape unique to the collection. An outer circle houses the dial and a secondary circle which in turn encases the crown. The singular dial is silvered with intricate guilloche working with radiates from the midst to the rim. A track near the rim marks out hourly intervals with black Roman numerals, while an inner track denotes minute markings. The crown is inimitable, with fluted working across its circumference and an imbedded blue spinel cabochon. Sapphire crystal glass prevents scratches from appearing on the dial. The steel bracelet consists of alternately brushed and polished links, which attach to the wrist by a hidden folding clasp.

With an impeccable quartz movement, the Ballon Bleu W69011Z4 has the Cartier calibre 690 for a reliable timekeeping experience. Two sword shaped hands made of blued steel provide the hour and minute functions. The watch is water resistant to a depth of 30m.

Interesting Facts
Kate Middleton, in her trip to Australia in 2014, was seen sporting the Ballon Bleu W69011Z4. Cartier has often been regarded as “a jeweller unlike any other,” and the "Jeweller of Kings and King of Jewellers," as is evinced by the fact that a large number of ancient, as well as contemporary royals chose this brand. Other eminent admirers include Princess Diana and Princess Caroline of Monaco.

The unusual name of the Ballon Bleu de Cartier is due to its light, circular dial which is reminiscent of a balloon, and the blue sapphire adorning the side of every timepiece from this collection. With a streamlined and elegant design, the line offers watches that are suitable for both men and women. Sophisticated artistry and superior watchmaking skills displayed in every timepiece belonging to the Ballon Bleu collection makes it an extremely memorable experience for its patrons.

The primary attraction of the Ballon Bleu de Cartier lies in its simplistic yet contemporary crafting. The perfect circular shape of the case is gently succeeded by a second circle located behind the three o’clock position, which houses the sapphire cabochon set crown. The dial comes in the subdued tones of white and black, with select models extending the colour pallette. The centre of the dial is the guilloche worked in all Ballon Bleu watches, with some cases sporting a date window or additional subdials. The hands are sword shaped and available as hour, minute, and in some cases, seconds indicators. The fixed bezels of these timepieces are adorned with diamonds in certain models for an added element of glamour.  Watches from this collection operate on mechanical or quartz movements, with precise timekeeping abilities. The satin brushed or polished straps of the entire collection makes for watches that are ideal ornaments for the quintessential watch fanatic.

As King Edward VII of the United Kingdom once said, Cartier is the “King of Jewelers and the Jeweler to Kings.” Today, Cartier in general and the Ballon Bleu de Cartier collection in particular is found to cater to the needs of the royals.
