About the Omega De Ville Collection
Originally introduced as part of the Seamaster range, the De Ville name emerged in the 1940s, serving as Omega’s elegant, dressy segment within a sportier lineup. Its name, "De Ville," reflects its association with classic refinement and sophistication. By 1967, Omega established De Ville as an independent collection. The line quickly became known for its blend of traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design. It has since expanded to include various series such as the Ladymatic, Prestige, and Trésor, each reflecting different facets of classic style and modern innovation. Among its notable models is the Tourbillon, which exemplifies high horological art and engineering.
Designs And Iterations
The Ladymatic, equipped with one of Omega's smallest automatic movements, holds the distinction of being the brand's first automatic watch designed exclusively for women. This series is designed with luxury in mind, with some models featuring a fully diamond-paved bezel for an added touch of opulence. The customisable strap options include luxurious leather or metal bracelets, allowing for a tailored look to complement any style. Additionally, the Ladymatic's intricate and distinctive mother-of-pearl or sun-brushed dials, enhances its visual appeal, making it a timeless piece of fine watchmaking. Meanwhile, the extensive Prestige collection includes various models such as the Prestige Gents, Ladies, Orbis, Butterfly, and Dewdrop. Each watch is characterised by its classic design—round cases, simple dials, and slender lugs—blending a retro aesthetic with modern appeal.
The Trésor series offers a range of models like the 40mm Power Reserve Master Chronometer and a distinctive quartz version, known for its tapering diamond-adorned case. Expanding on the De Ville line, the Tourbillon series showcases exquisite craftsmanship in solid 18k gold or 950 platinum, featuring a central tourbillon display. This intricate mechanism, designed to counteract the effects of gravity, ensures exceptional precision in these timepieces.
ABOUT THE MOVEMENT
Omega's calibre 2500 is a notable movement in the brand's history. Introduced in 1999, it was the first Omega movement to feature the Co-Axial escapement, developed by renowned watchmaker George Daniels. This technology significantly reduces friction in the movement, improving accuracy, and longevity. The calibre 2500 is based on the ETA 2892-A2, a well-respected automatic movement, but with Omega’s enhancements. It operates at 25,200vph, a slight adjustment from the standard 28,800 vph, optimising it for the Co-Axial escapement. Over the years, the movement underwent various improvements, resulting in different versions such as 2500A, 2500B, 2500C, and the most refined, 2500D. This movement has been used in several Omega collections, including the Constellation, Seamaster and De Ville, contributing to Omega’s reputation for precision and innovation.
