The Cartier institution, founded in 1847 catered to renowned people from all over the world. An addition to jewellery making, the first wristwatch was made in 1904 by the man behind the company, Louis Cartier himself.
The tank collection is inspired by the Renault tanks that Cartier saw in use in the First World War. Mimicking its shape and lines, the watch incorporating four lines and two parallel shafts was a revolutionary square that changed the history of watch making. ‘An infinitely refined and timeless design’, the Tank is an iconic piece that has a varied range of designs dedicated to its excellence.
Inspired by the initial Tank design, the Cartier Tank Americaine W2603156 has a more elongated case and a pronounced curve. Designed for men, the watch is a classic timepiece that is made for connoisseurs only. It is characterised by an 8 sided crown set with faceted sapphire. The 18K rectangular yellow gold case measures 45.1mm x 26.6mm and has a thickness of 8.85mm. With a guilloche silver dial and Roman numerals as hour markers and a brown alligator skin strap, a classic touch is added to the watch. It incorporates blued sward shaped hands and an 18K ardillon yellow gold buckle added to the strap. It is a masterpiece that reiterates why Cartier is a legendary face in the art of watch making.
The Cartier institution has always epitomised beauty and elegance without compromising on its excellent quality. Equipped with the Cartier caliber 120, this automatic winding mechanical movement timepiece works with great precision. This model with durability combined with elegance is a piece every luxury watch enthusiast should own. It consists of a deployment buckle. The sapphire crystal is scratch resistant and the watch is water resistant up to 30 m. Tank, ‘The history of a style’, adds a new piece to its legendary collection.
The First World War succeeded in inspiring a whole line of watches when Louis Cartier, the founder of the iconic Cartier brand fashioned watches inspired by the Renault tanks introduced by the Americans on the Western Front. These intricately designed timepieces born from an unusual inspiration were eventually introduced by the brand as the Tank collection in 1917, before they were launched in the markets in 1919.
The Tank collection has cases available in both rectangle and square shapes similar to the proportions of the tough war-machine. The case is further accentuated with a cabochon crown and sword shaped hour and minute hands set in a classic dial with Roman numerals, exuding a vintage feel. The distinctively patterned bracelet is the highlight of this collection. It consists of rectangular links ingeniously integrated with vertical sidebars, which bring to mind the rugged construction of the tank’s tracks used during war.
Originally introduced as far back as World War I, today this coveted collection is crafted using cutting-edge technology to feature enhanced functions such as calendar and power reserve displays. They also offer a broad range of movements from the simple yet precise Quartz to the technologically complicated and unerringly accurate automatic.
The Tank collection finds its manifestation in 6 ranges: Francaise, Americaine, Anglaise, MC, Solo and Louis Cartier.
