Round-UpTen TAG Heuer Watches For Every Lifestyle

Pushing the envelope within the established realm of Swiss horology, TAG Heuer has been a prominent player in the luxury watch industry for over 150 years. Although intensively associated with motor sports and racing, where timekeeping is of absolute consequence, it has also branched out into various other spheres by harmoniously merging horological performance and modern style. These 10 watches bear testament to that

TAG Heuer, one of the finest Swiss watchmakers, is an unmatchable manufacturing name that inspires thrill-seeking aficionados around the world. Initially coined as Heuer by the founder, Swiss timepiece expert Edouard Heuer, it was bought by the TAG (Techniques d’Avant Garde) Group in 1985. Staying true to its reputation as a luxury watch manufacturer, its former CEO, Jean-Claude Biver once stated how TAG Heuer watches “…convey a sensation of power while remaining affordable.”

With forward-looking designs and emphasis on the highest standards of precision in timekeeping, the brand has ventured deep into technology ever since it started. It abridged the complex chronograph by making the famed oscillating pinion back in the 19th century, which is still followed by various renowned watchmakers today. While renowned sports and entertainment icons including Muhammad Ali and Steve McQueen have been its brand ambassadors in the past, even today there are numerous celebrities from various walks of life endorsing the brand. One of the current ambassadors is actor Chris Hemsworth of Marvel’s Thor fame. More in line with the brand though was his portrayal of Formula One racing driver James Hunt in the 2013 film, Rush. Moreover, Hemsworth even exemplifies the brand’s motto: ‘Don’t crack under pressure’. And that is a slogan that applies all the TAG Heuer watches; not just the motor-racing-inspired collections. Here are 10 exemplary products from various collections of the brand that can best convey your true renegade spirit. Take your pick.

Aquaracer Calibre 5

This luxurious self-winding timepiece has the Calibre 5 movement based on the improved version of the Swiss manufactured ETA 2824-2, which runs on a frequency of 28,000vph and offers a power reserve of 38 hours. Water resistant to 300m as a diver’s watch should be, this one is also quite legible, with luminescent indexes that have rhodium plating and a date aperture clearly seen at three o’clock, due to the magnifying lens over it. While the bulky hour and minute hands also have a luminous coating, they are not too glaring and they glow nicely in the dark. The blue strap made out of tough blue rubber complements the blue dial. Moreover, its flawless construction is evident. The 43mm, finely-brushed stainless steel case with a closed back features an engraving of a diving mask, while the sapphire crystal glass in front has an antireflective coating. Its blue-toned ceramic unidirectional bezel with Arabic numerals has a glossy finish.

Carrera Calibre 16

Along with that classic sporty vibe that is prevalent in most of the timepieces in the famed Carrera collection, TAG Heuer brings distinguished design in this self-winding timepiece. It is powered by the Swiss-made Calibre 16, with 28,000vph and a 42-hour power reserve. The brilliant blue dial with rhodium-plated hour indexes, along with the different hues of blue in the sub-dials and the complementing blue alligator strap exude a highly contemporary vibe. Along with the open caseback that lets you see the movement, the sapphire crystal glass in front has antireflective coating on either side, which makes the dial perfectly legible under any lighting conditions. There are two cylindrical push buttons at the two and four o’clock positions and the inner flange of the immersed dial has the minute markers. The sub-dial at six o’clock counts up to 12 hours, the one at the 12 o’clock position measures up to 30 minutes and the one at the nine o’clock position is for the small seconds.  It is also resistant to water to a 100m depth.

Formula 1 Quartz

This elegant sports watch will convey your adventurous streak, as it will be helpful even if you’re 100m underwater, so to speak. While its two-year battery will support its Swiss-made quartz movement, the rugged sapphire crystal glass will protect the dial from wearing away. Clean with elongated hour indexes, the blue dial features only one Arabic numeral, 12, below which lies the cool TAG Heuer logo. Another addition to this rounded timepiece is the fixed bezel, which has the engraved markers signifying the minutes. The modestly-sized 35mm stainless steel case is matched with a steel bracelet.

Monaco Calibre 11

This revised timepiece is an ode to an earlier avant-garde design that came to the fore when actor Steve McQueen sported it in the film on automobile racing, Le Mans, back in the early 70s. With subtle changes, this timepiece has the signature Monaco square case, 39mm wide, with a see-through caseback—the new feature not seen in the 70s’ original. Through this, you can see the renowned Calibre 11 movement that has a balance frequency of 28,000vph. The crown at nine o’clock and the two chronograph push buttons at two and four o’clock are among the distinguishing factors of this famed design that did not change. Also, keeping in mind its retro appeal, the vintage Heuer logo is printed on the powder blue dial. The square chronograph counter at the nine o’clock position measures up to 30 minutes, while the sub-dial at three o’clock is for the running seconds. The raised sapphire crystal glass, along with the applied horizontal indexes on the dial and the red accents on hour, minute and seconds hands do look fantastic. This self-winding chronograph timepiece with a power reserve of 40 hours also comes with a cool perforated calfskin strap in black, while the case itself is resistant to water up to 100m.

The chronograph sub-dials are at the 12 and six o’clock positions counting up to 30 minutes and 12 hours, respectively, while at nine o’clock is the small seconds sub-dial. Between the minute markers are markers that help you read the chronograph count accurate to one-fourth of a second.
