About the Luminox CONSTELLATION® Collection
Luminox’s storied association with aviation can be traced back to a few longstanding partners that, needless to say, include the US Navy SEALs but also the American aerospace engineering company Lockheed Martin. In 2022, the brand celebrated its partnership with Lockheed by paying homage to its most legendary aircraft, Constellation. The Lockheed Martin Constellation was a watershed creation for civil and military aviation. It was the first pressurised-cabin civil aircraft to fly smoothly and safely at high altitudes. Luminox launched an eponymous collection of precise and elegant-looking pilot watches that perfectly manifested the excellence of this record-breaking airliner.
Design And Movement
The Luminox Constellation® comes with a 42mm 316L stainless steel case that creates a modest but impressive presence on the wrist with its elegant round profile. The unidirectional bezel with a 12-hour scale gives quite an evident pilot watch sensibility. The dominating use of minute markers on the bezel with only quarterly hour ones elevates functionality, letting one measure elapsed time more accurately. The signature-engraved crown is sensibly knurled, its screwed-in construction facilitating 100m of water resistance. The Luminox Constellation® watches are powered by the automatic calibre 9600, based on Sellita SW200-1 movement.
The Standout Bells And Whistles
Of course, when talking about Luminox watches, luminosity instantly springs to mind, and it is one area where Constellation® punches above its weight. The brand’s signature Luminox Light Technology ensures legibility in darkness is unparalleled. It comes equipped with tritium gas-filled tubes that are capable of emitting a constant glow for up to 25 years, even sans any previous exposure to light.
The 3D caseback serves as the perfect punctuation for the Luminox Constellation® collection. It nods to the legendary aeroplane with a stunning 3D depiction. While the design is meant to honour Lockheed’s iconic feat, it also works as a fine demonstration of the brand’s excellent craftsmanship.
ABOUT THE MOVEMENT
Sellita, once a reassembly company, is now the second-largest movement maker in Europe. They are known for producing the renowned calibre SW200-1, an automatic movement that serves as a popular alternative to the calibre ETA 2824-2. It is widely used by many watchmakers as the main and base calibre. The SW 200-1 powers essential watch functions such as the three central hands display and date, boasting a 38-hour power reserve and operating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. However, these specifications can be adjusted by brands to meet their specific requirements.
