Of all eight collaborative timepieces presented since 2016 when TAG Heuer’s alliance with Oracle Red Bull began, the latest Formula 1 Chronograph X Oracle Red Bull Racing watch is undoubtedly the most striking. Released to commemorate 20 years of Oracle Red Bull in Formula 1, the watch features distinctive racing inspired details. It also displays a number of firsts for the winning collaboration between both brands. Most prominently, the Red Bull logo peeks out through bold and luminous numerals on the left on the dial. This special watch “represents everything Oracle Red Bull Racing can be proud of, from the outstanding championship victories and the triumphant racing successes with Max Verstappen and Sergio Pérez,” says TAG Heuer CEO Antoine Pin. Limited to 3,000 pieces, the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph X Oracle Red Bull Racing watch is a collector’s dream.

A Winning Collaboration Of Racing And Time: TAG Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph X Oracle Red Bull Racing
Much like previously released watches in the collaboration, this TAG Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph X Oracle Red Bull Racing timepiece too features the motorsports team’s livery colours. This watch, however, is the first time the brand have presented a black DLC treatment for their steel case. Sized at 43mm, the case features brushed and polished finishing on case, lugs, crown and bezel. A lacquered red ring enhances the black coating on the pusher at two o’clock, and highlights the brands’ collaboration. With a deep blue insert that matches the dial, the bezel displays a tachymeter scale. On the textured blue rubber strap, a black DLC-coated folding clasp enhances the racing-inspired look and feel of the watch.
Also treated with black DLC to match the rest of the case, the closed caseback showcases both brand’s logos against a chequered flag. It displays the watch’s 200m water resistance and the limited edition number of each timepiece.

Racing-Inspired Time Telling: TAG Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph X Oracle Red Bull Racing
Graining on the dial of the TAG Heuer Formiula 1 Chronograph X Oracle Red Bull Racing watch is reminiscent of the texture on the racetrack. While TAG Heuer have used this textured base on their Formula 1 watch dials in the past, this is the first time this graining features on a collaborative timepiece with Oracle Red Bull Racing. The racing brand’s logo appears between 10 and seven on the dial. Superimposed on this red text are bold white Arabic numerals that are filled with Super-LumiNova for better legibility in darkened—or fast-moving—conditions, as the case may be.

Marked on the black flange ring is a minute track in white, with yellow markers at intervals of five. This yellow is also reflected in the central chronograph hand. Yellow and red highlights against the blue are a nod to the Oracle Red Bull Racing team liveries. And yet, the combination of hues is a timeless mix of bold and sedate. Other red highlights include the small seconds hand within a sub-dial at three o’clock. At six o’clock is the sub-dial that houses the 1/10th-of-a-second-recorder. This counter is designed to look like the speedometer of a race car, with the highest speeds marked in red. At nine is the 30-minute counter with five minute intervals marked in red. Naturally, the dial is busy because of all the information and racing design cues packed in. Yet, legibility remains clean because of lume-filled numerals and partially skeletonised Super-LumiNova-filled hands. Contrasts aid in keeping the watch’s functions clean.

Aesthetically pleasing racing-driven design cues make this a winning timepiece and a fitting one to commemorate an achievement. For consistent innovation with pushing the limits in a race car or the engineering behind it is a feat worthy of celebration. Here’s to another season on the fast track to excellence.
