Edox Maître Horloger
Swiss watchmaker Christian Ruefli-Flury founded Edox watches in Biel, Switzerland, in 1884. Ruefli-Flury started the company on his wife’s prodding after she became impressed by his gift of a pocket watch on her 25th birthday.
Edox is known as the ‘Water Champion’ of the watchmaking industry. This term was derived from the Delfin timepiece that Edox created in 1961, a watch that fitted the patented crown with a double gasket for better water resistance.
After gaining fame through Delfin, Edox launched another groundbreaking timepiece in 1965 called the Edox Hydro-Sub. The Hydro-Sub was the first timepiece that had a crown equipped with a tension ring and a shock-absorbing gasket.
Broadening its horizon, Edox created the Geoscope timepiece that featured time zones for more than 50 different cities. The strife for exclusivity did not end here. In 1998, Edox created Les Bémonts Ultra Slim, the world’s thinnest calendar watch—a record Edox still holds today.
The Collection
With heritage and ingenuity at its crown, Edox offers a wide range of collections for its consumers. Collections such as Delfin travel on the historical aspects of the brand as it was relaunched in 2013. The CO-1, Neptunian, North Sea, and Hydro-Sub are the diving collections offered by Edox and complement the “Water Champions” tag of the brand. Apart from these collections, the brand also offers collections such as SkyDiver, Chronorally, Les Bémonts, and Les Vauberts.
Strategic Collaborations
Edox tied up with several high-profile individuals and organisations to create limited-edition watches and special collections. A prime collaboration was the Edox Koenigsegg Limited Edition with Koenigsegg, the Swedish super sports car manufacturer. Edox was also the official timekeeper for the Dakar Rally, Extreme Sailing Series, and World Curling Federation.
At present, Edox is the official timekeeping partner for the Class-1 World Powerboat Championship, World Rally Championship (WRC), Sauber F1 Team, and BMW M Motorsport.
In tandem with Monster Energy drinks, Edox is also the official timing partner of the 2023 FIA World Rallycross Championship.
