Edox Delfin The Original Delfin Day-Date Automatic

History

The watch that gave Edox the moniker of “Water Champions” was Delfin. Launched in 1962, the Delfin hovered over the marine watches that were prevalent during that era. The reason behind Delfin’s popularity was its double caseback, special protective gasket, and a double O’ring system specially developed for the Delfin. These features especially the double gasket revolutionised the diving watches diaspora to the point where many watchmakers to this day use this technology. This timepiece was again revived in 2013 as the Edox Delfin The Original collection and paid a remarkable tribute to this historical timepiece.

Features

The Delfin is a reincarnation of the original timepiece thus the Delfin The Original. The modern-day Delfin rarely took inspiration from the 60s model but does define the core idea of crafting a robust yet aesthetic timepiece. The three-hand version for men features six screws on the bezel with a day/date window at the 3 o’clock marker. In the chronograph variant, the bezel features Arabic numerals and the dial is fitted with sub-dials in a bi-compax layout. Another iteration of the Delfin is the Mecano Automatic. A set of timepieces that proudly display robust automatic movements with skeleton dials, the Mecano is a mechanical wonder by Edox. For women, the utilitarian DNA took a shift with mother-of-pearl dials and diamonds. In some of the timepieces, there are diamond-studded bezel variants that add to the grace of the Delfin.

The 60th Anniversary Edition

Launched in January 2022, the Edox Delfin Mecano 60th Anniversary Edition is a series of timepieces that was created in honour of the first Delfin launched in 1962. Featuring a skeleton dial, this Mecano captures the spirit of the original Delfin. Equipped with a 12-sided bezel, the skeletonised dial displays the movement with a rotor-like cut dial.
