Round-UpLive Life In The Fast Lane With These TAG Heuer Carrera Watches

Ever since Jack Heuer created the first Carrera watch in 1963, TAG Heuer has been in the spotlight for making timepieces that are extremely durable and well designed. And there seems to be no stopping the brand, as it continues to deliver stellar timepieces time and again, as we shall now see in this article

May We Recommend

The TAG Heuer Carrera line of watches has always revolved around the high-octane world of racing. The illustrious story began when Jack Heuer—the great-grandson of TAG Heuer founder Edouard Heuer, and a gifted watchmaker himself—created the Carrera watch in 1963 in honour of the famous Carrera Panamericana automobile race. The timepiece proved to be a hit in the horological world, and soon after its launch, Carrera became synonymous with TAG Heuer. Now, half a century later, the iconic line is still as reliable and attractive as it ever was, thanks to a slew of stellar releases that made the world take notice. Here are a few TAG Heuer timepieces from the Carrera collection that you must consider when looking for an ideal sport watch.

Carrera Heuer 02T

TAG Heuer is a brand that has been known for creating quality luxury timepieces with a reasonable price tag, and this watch certainly is testament to that. The 45mm Carrera Heuer 02T COSC—which features a tourbillon movement, along with a chronograph function—is built from grade-5 titanium and carbon fibre.  It houses a brilliant skeletal dial in a modular case design. And all of this comes at a highly competitive price. The tourbillon itself should immediately increase the price six-fold, but that’s not the case here. The calibre has an impressive power reserve of 65 hours. This watch should be on the list of every sport watch enthusiast out there, and is a monumental release from the brand.

Carrera Heuer 01

The calibre Heuer 1 is the brand’s signature chronograph movement that powers this series of watches. Enclosed in steel cases of 45mm, these timepieces have an extremely bold presence on the wrist. However, the most striking of the lot is the Aston Martin Special Edition watch. This is not your usual auto-inspired piece, with simply a logo added, but its design has been heavily influenced by elements of Aston Martin cars.  Its movement has been skeletonised in a hexagonal pattern reminiscent of the grille detailing on an Aston Martin Vantage. In addition, the sides of the steel case have been enhanced with parallel ‘speed lines’ that are inspired by a racetrack. The timepiece also has chronograph pushers that resemble a car engine’s pistons. The 50-hour power reserve can be cut short to 40 if the chronograph is used continuously. The Heuer 01 is the perfect watch for those who are on the lookout for an authentic automobile experience on their wrist.

Carrera Calibre 5

A women’s watch that is the epitome of restrained elegance, the 36mm Carrera Calibre 5 watches boast either a beautiful white mother-of-pearl dial or a bright blue dial with a sunray finish. Elegant hour markers match the hue of the delicate Dauphine hands. A date window at three o’clock enhances its functional appeal, and the minute markers on the periphery of the dial gives the watch a sporty edge. The eponymous movement gives the timepiece a power reserve of 38 hours. The mother-of-pearl variant comes with a brown alligator leather strap, while the blue variant is fashioned with an elegant stainless steel bracelet.

Carrera Calibre 16 Day-Date

All timepieces from the Carrera collection feature a sporty aesthetic that doesn’t look out of place in a boardroom setting, and the Carrera Calibre 16 Day-Date is no different. Making use of the ETA 7750 movement—one of the most successful chronograph movements ever made—the watches from this series boast a 42-hour power reserve and a rapid day-and-date correction system. The TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 has several models ranging between 41 and 43mm, all with a water resistance of 100m. With large numerals on the dial, reading the time is an extremely easy task. Despite a day-date and chronograph function exhibited through the dial, and a tachymeter on the fixed bezel, the overall look remains uncluttered and elegant. The model featured here is a fine example of what the collection is all about. A 43mm polished steel case gives this Calibre 16 Day-Date its iconic silhouette. This watch is a great choice for those in the market for a no-nonsense sport chronograph.

Carrera Quartz

If you’re looking for an elegant women’s watch that makes a statement, with its luxurious and bold appearance on the wrist, look no further than the Carrera Quartz. With a slightly larger case size, at 39mm, this watch is sure to get noticed. The polished stainless steel case wonderfully complements the blue dial with a sunray finish, which boasts rose gold-coloured indices, along with the blue quilted leather strap. Another variant, whose case, dial and strap are fashioned in black, has contrasting rose gold-coloured indexes, lending this timepiece a contemporary and elegant appeal. Both variants, as the name suggests, are powered by a quartz movement that boasts a battery life of 24 months.

Carrera Calibre Heuer 02

Fans of skeleton watches will know that, when it comes to open-worked watches, it’s usually form over functionality. Skeleton dials can look a bit busy, and might not work for those who prefer a clean, functional appearance. The Carrera Calibre 02 is an exception for this oft-seen quandary. The skeleton dial gives one a glimpse of the beating heart of the watch—the eponymous calibre Heuer 02, which boasts a GMT function and an impressive power reserve of 80 hours. This movement, vibrating at 4Hz and protected by sapphire crystal on both sides, powers the chronograph, second time zone and date functions. The chronograph counters are as clear as day, and don’t compromise the utilitarian air of this timepiece one bit. The fixed bezel has a lovely dual tone of black and blue. Available in two variants—one with a formal stainless steel bracelet and the other with a sporty black leather strap—the Carrera 02 is a chronograph suited for all occasions.

Carrera Calibre 8

Designed primarily for frequent globetrotters, the Calibre 8 series of watches is purpose-built with a couple of tricks up its sleeve. One, the large ‘grande date’ in a hand-applied, bevelled window at 12 o’clock; and two, a second time zone, represented as an independent hours-and-minutes sub-dial at six o’clock. A mix of polished and brushed steel shapes the 41mm case of the watch, which is paired with either an elegant leather strap or a metal link bracelet. All dial options feature polished, hand-applied faceted indexes and polished hour and minute hands. With a COSC chronometer certification, a power reserve of 42 hours, and water resistance of 100m, the Calibre 8 is the ultimate watch for modern travellers.

Carrera Calibre 1887

A refreshing change from the otherwise sporty look of the Carrera series, the Calibre 1887 exudes elegance and panache with its simple aesthetic. This line-up consists of watches that look sleek and stunning, with clean dials, large numerals and neat sub-dials. This particular 41mm variant boasts a polished steel case with 100m of water resistance. The use of sapphire crystal, both in front and at the back, makes this a tough timepiece that looks especially refined.
