ReviewBest Of H. Moser & Cie. On Rubber: Presenting The H. Moser & Cie. Streamliner Flyback Chronograph Boutique Edition

With a Matrix-green fumé dial against a rich red-gold case paired with a black rubber—yes, rubber!—strap, the H. Moser & Cie. Streamliner Flyback Chronograph Boutique Edition is everything it promises to be, and then some more

May We Recommend

Putting the cart before the horse, H. Moser & Cie. created the integrated bracelet of their Streamliner before they designed the case. This worked really well for them when the Streamliner series released in 2020, as today, the single-link bracelet is probably as iconic as the cushion-shaped case it is integrated with. Now, Moser have replaced the metal bracelet with an integrated rubber strap for their latest Streamliner Flyback Chronograph Boutique Edition. Featuring a 5N red gold case and a gorgeous Matrix green fumé dial, the watch is paired with a black rubber strap with titanium inserts that ensure the seamless, streamlined effect and fit the Streamliner is known for. Not only does this new rubber strap take the Streamliner further into the sports watch category, but also ensures that its price remains competitive, as opposed to if the watch were integrated with a red gold bracelet.

Streamlined And Integrated On The Wrist

Inspired by ‘streamlined’ and aerodynamic locomotive engines of the 1920s and 30s, the Streamliner with its integrated bracelet first made an appearance in 2020, with the Streamliner Flyback Chronograph, which defied the definition of a standard chronograph, visually speaking. Featuring a chronograph movement integrated into the calibre, the 2020 Streamliner has been described as a “stroke of genius”. The brand followed this release with the time-only Streamliner Centre Seconds with a ‘Matrix’ green fumé dial, Moser’s more accessible entry into what would grow into one of their most successful collections. Red gold has also featured in the Streamliner Tourbillon Vantablack.

Streamliner Flyback Chronograph Boutique Edition

For their latest Streamliner Flyback Chronograph Boutique Edition, Moser have integrated three of their greatest hits with rubber. The result is a beautiful and functional timepiece that looks completely different, courtesy of the black rubber strap. Although, much of the watch is the same as the 2020 Streamliner Flyback Chronograph. The 42.3mm cushion-shaped case, with a height of 14.2mm, offers a water resistance of 120m, which allows the chronograph and flyback functions to be used under water. This is noteworthy, as even some dive watches with chronograph complications don’t support the use of the pushers when submerged. A domed and chamfered sapphire crystal glass sits over the dial, seemingly integrated and flowing smoothly from the polished red gold case. The textured black rubber strap is fitted with titanium inserts which allow for an ergonomic fit on the wrist, with an engraved folding clasp in 5N red gold to match the case.

Moser’s signature sunburst fumé dial starts off as a lime green towards the centre and darkens to an almost black around the periphery. The flyback chronograph hand stands out in red against the shaded green dial. Red gold makes an appearance in the form of sectioned timekeeping hands with Globolight inserts that contain Super-LumiNova, and an applied ‘60’ minute marker at 12 o’clock, contrasting beautifully against the darkened green. Just below this marker is the H. Moser & Cie. logo in a transparent lacquer, only visible at certain angles and with ideal lighting. This ‘secret signature’ is Moser’s minimalism at its best. Around the periphery of the dial is a checkerboard racing track in white and red, surrounded by a tachymeter scale around the inner flange ring. On the inside of the seconds track are minute markers in intervals of 10.

Behind the dial but visible through the exhibition caseback of the watch is the HMC 907 calibre with a 72-hour power reserve, developed by H. Moser along with their partners AGENHOR. The tungsten oscillating weight has been placed between the movement and the dial, and allows for an unhindered view of the chronograph and the column wheel.

All of H. Moser & Cie.’s best work is on display in their Streamliner Flyback Chronograph Boutique Edition, created to celebrate the brand’s growth and expansion into different markets in the last decade. This exclusive timepiece is only available at H. Moser boutiques and through their online sales platform.
