Maurice Lacroix Aikon Venturer 38mm ‘The White Amazon’
Without a doubt, the Aikon collection—first introduced in 2016—has become a flagship line for Maurice Lacroix. After offering only quartz timepieces initially, the brand expanded the collection by adding several mechanical and chronograph watches, which brought much appreciation and success for the Swiss luxury player. In 2019, the brand even launched a diver’s edition of the Aikon, called the Venturer. And in 2021, Maurice Lacroix have expanded their Venturer offering. Panerai Luminor Piccolo Due Madreperla
While the Florentine brand have experimented with coloured straps and rose gold cases in the past, till date, they didn’t have a specific offering dedicated to ladies. And this year at the digital edition of Watches and Wonders, Panerai forayed into this segment and presented the Piccolo Due Madreperla timepiece. A true ‘Panerai’ watch in every sense, this piece is for strong, independent women, yet doesn’t compromise on the feminine aspect. The watch stands out for its mother-of-pearl dial—a first for Panerai—and its versatile and eclectic mix of fine Italian aesthetics. The gorgeous dial is complemented by pink gold hands, Arabic numerals and indexes filled with SuperLumiNova. The date window is placed at three o’clock while the seconds counter balances the symmetry at nine o’clock. The 38mm case—the smallest ever for a Panerai watch—is crafted in Goldtech. This is a trademark gold alloy that looks rich and glossy due to a significant percentage of copper (24 percent) and platinum (4 percent), and also boasts an extremely high resistance to oxidation. Water-resistant to 30m, the Piccolo Due Madreperla is brought to life by an automatic mechanical movement calibre P.900, composed of 171 components, with a three-day power reserve. It is presented on a lustrous cherry-red alligator strap, and also features a quick-release system for its strap, so the wearer can easily interchangeable between alternative straps available in a multitude of colours and textures.
TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300
This year, TAG Heuer have gone back to the roots of their iconic Aquaracer collection and have revamped the series with a modified case, different sizes, colours and materials. The brand have equipped the timepieces with futuristic technology without radically changing their design—which takes its cues from the first Aquaracer, introduced in 2004. Among these offerings are the three variants of 36mm case size that are fully made of stainless steel. Available in blue, black or a silver hue, the timepieces have the signature dodecagonal frame of their predecessors but with a more chiselled case structure, an upgraded sapphire crystal glass, and a new scratch-resistant ceramic insert on the improved diver’s bezel. However, what really distinguishes the watches is the shift of the date aperture from three o’clock to six, magnified by a convex part on the glass, which is on its lower side, so as to keep the top of the glass smooth. Equipped with TAG Heuer’s calibre 5, an automatic movement based on the ETA 2824-2, the Aquaracer Professional 300 timepieces offer a standard power reserve of 42 hours.
Zenith Defy 21 Spectrum
Following the current trend of colourful watches, Zenith introduced their Defy collection in dazzling hues at the digital edition of Watches and Wonders 2021. The quirky yet beautiful Defy 21 Spectrum range offers timepieces that feature colourful chronograph movements coupled with a matching gem-set bezel in five bold hues to complement the vibrant straps. The stones in the five variants include orange sapphires, green tsavorites, blue sapphires, amethyst garnets, and black spinels. Housed in a 44mm stainless steel case, each timepiece is embellished with 288 brilliant-cut white diamonds, along with a bezel, which flaunts 44 baguette-cut precious stones. To achieve this marvellous feat, the highly skilled technicians at Zenith had to laboriously select stones of the same size, colour and high quality, and then painstakingly place them individually on the metal with hands. With a bedazzled exterior, these watches also offer the ultimate in chronograph timekeeping, with Zenith’s famous El Primero 21 movement that has a separate escapement for the chronograph that can measure down to 1/100th of a second. The calibre offers a power reserve of up to 50 hours.
