SpotlightGold Watches Rule At The 2020 Golden Globe Awards
At the first major Hollywood awards of the 2020s, gold watches were sported aplenty, while Omega made the biggest mark, most notably on the wrist of ‘James Bond’

The 77th Golden Globe Awards unfolded on Sunday, January 5, at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, where celebrities showed up by the dozen, sporting their finest red carpet attire. It’s not unusual these days for men’s tuxedos to feature a variety of colours, textures, patterns and non-traditional fabrics. However, as far as watches were concerned, this year at the Globes, the men chose to keep things rather classical. This was seen in classic round dress watches with leather straps, or even vintage-inspired timepieces, and rectangular icons such as the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso, the Cartier Tank Solo (worn by Mr. Robot actor Rami Malek) and the Girard-Perregaux Vintage 1945. More than anything though, it was gold that really stood out as a popular favourite. And it was Omega that made the biggest mark, seen most notably on the wrists of the brand’s ambassadors, Big Little Lies actress and nominee Nicole Kidman, and current James Bond, Daniel Craig. Here are a few of the most noteworthy watches we spotted on the wrists of actors at the awards.
Daniel Craig | Omega Speedmaster
The James Bond actor, who was nominated for his lead role in the comedy film, Knives Out, chose to wear a classic black, double-breasted tuxedo from Anderson and Sheppard. And offset against it was an all-gold Omega watch. He was wearing the Speedmaster Automatic Chronometer. It was surprising that he wasn’t sporting one of Omega’s two recently-released James Bond editions, considering that his latest outing as the super-spy, No Time To Die, is due to release this April. But then, this is a watch that is no longer available with the brand, and it’s not uncommon for Omega to have their ambassadors wear unique pieces from their archives.
Pierce Brosnan | Girard-Perregaux Vintage 1945
Craig’s predecessor, with whom Omega actually became the official James Bond watch (in 1995’s Goldeneye), was also wearing a gold timepiece, which complemented his Giorgio Armani ensemble. However, the watch brand that Brosnan chose to wear was Girard-Perregaux. From Girard-Perregaux’s Vintage 1945 collection, which is known for its rectangular cases, this watch has in fact been seen on Brosnan’s wrist previously as well. He even wore it in his 2016 film Love Is All You Need.
Chris Evans | Omega De Ville Trésor
The Avengers Endgame actor who starred as Captain America in 11 Marvel films, made a dashing appearance at the Globes, wearing an Isaia tuxedo in rich brown corduroy. Evans, who also stars in the Globe-nominated Knives Out, was reportedly wearing an Omega De Ville Trésor watch. The timepiece he sported was most likely this De Ville set in a 40mm Sedna gold case featuring a soft grey dial, with a matching leather strap.
Stellan Skarsgård | Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso
Stellan Skarsgård, who won a Golden Globe for his supporting role in the critically-acclaimed HBO limited series Chernobyl, turned up at the awards wearing a classic, three-piece black tuxedo. Complementing the Swedish actor’s attire was an iconic Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso watch. Set in pink gold, the watch on his wrist was most probably the Reverso Classic Large Duoface Small Seconds.
Nicholas Braun | Omega De Ville Trésor
Wearing an ensemble in blue and black, Nicholas Braun was also reportedly wearing an Omega De Ville Trésor. The actor, who plays the naïve but ambitious Greg in the hit HBO series, Succession—which won the Golden Globe for ‘best TV series, drama’—sported a more classical black-and-white De Ville.
