About the Panerai Submersible Collection
History
The Panerai Submersible collection takes its inspiration from the diving watches that were produced for the Royal Italian Navy in the second world war. Officially, the Submersible as a stand-alone collection was launched in 2019 breaking off from the Luminor collection.
Features
The Panerai Submersible collection is a diving watch and carries forward the tradition of combat diving watches that Panerai carries for decades. The addition of an anti-clockwise rotating bezel with a graduated scale makes it different from the Radiomir and Luminor. Filled with masses of lume inside the hour and minutes hand, the Panerai Submersible offers excellent visibility at night and also for diving. Most of the timepieces under the Submersible collection are fitted with small seconds at the 9 o’clock marker and a date window at 3 o’clock. Whereas, in the Submersible Chrono Mike Horn edition the addition of a flyback chronograph makes it a robust diving watch.
Design
The cushion-shaped dial, the signature crown protector, and the lugs are all reminiscent of the brand. What distinguishes Submersible from the Radiomir and Luminor is the minute markers on the bezel, and obviously the bezel. The design takes its inspiration from the Radiomirs produced in the 1950s for the Royal Italian Navy.
ABOUT THE MOVEMENT
Running at a frequency of 28,800bph, the calibre P.9010 is an in-house creation, aligning with Panerai's progression towards full manufacture status that started in 2005 with the introduction of calibre P.2002. Powering many Panerai timepieces, the meticulously crafted P.9010 features a Glucydur® balance, an Incabloc® anti-shock system, and exquisitely finished 200 components. It offers a practical jumping hour hand that doesn't stop the movement during adjustments, thus simplifying time zone changes for travellers. With twin barrels providing a generous 72-hour power reserve and an oscillating rotor driving in both directions, the movement operates on 31 rubies and remarkably measures a mere 6mm in thickness.
