About the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Collection
History
In 1903, the French Navy gave Swiss watchmakers the challenge of creating ultra-thin calibres. Mr Jacques-David LeCoultre accepted the challenge and created the Calibre 145. The Calibre 145 was just 1.38mm thick and has represented the brand's acumen in crafting ultra-thin movements since then.
Features
With long dauphine hands and round cases, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin collection is heavily inspired by the timepieces produced by the brand during the 1950s. Even while being one of the thinnest watches in the world, the collection is filled with complications such as tourbillon, moon phase, and power reserve indicator. Inside the Master Ultra Thin Small Seconds series, the small seconds sub-dial is fixed at the 6 o'clock marker whereas, the Ultra Thin Date series has a date window at the 6 o'clock position. The Master Ultra Thin Moon series has the moon phase indicator at 6 o'clock and the date is marked by a small hand inside the same sub-dial. The collection is also home to the Master Ultra Thin Power Reserve series. Inside the Power Reserve series, the power reserve indicator, the date sub-dial, and the small seconds are fixed at the 10, 2, and 6 o'clock markers, respectively.
The Master Ultra Thin Perpetual Calendar
It is not an easy task to fit three sub-dials, a year window, and a moon phase in a particularly petite watch. This is done with perfection inside the Master Ultra Thin Perpetual Calendar. The busy dial showcases various complications such as day, date, month and moon phase. The Perpetual Calendar also displays a year window placed between the 7 and 8 o'clock indexes. Apart from these indicators, there is a small unique aperture under the moon phase dial. This aperture when changing its colour depicts that one should not adjust the watch. It is primarily for the safety of the movement as adjusting the watch during certain phases might damage the movement.
The Master Ultra Thin Tourbillon
Tourbillons are one of the most complicated complications in the watchmaking industry and they tend to take up a lot of space. With the Master Ultra Thin Tourbillon series, the one-minute tourbillon perfectly sits on the 6 o'clock marker whilst retaining the petite aesthetic of the collection. Raising the bets, Jaeger-LeCoultre also equipped the collection with a Master Ultra Thin Tourbillon Moon where apart from the tourbillon is also a moon phase indicator at the 12 o'clock position.
ABOUT THE MOVEMENT
Introduced in 2013, Jaeger-LeCoultre calibre 868 is a slim, automatic movement, measuring only 4.72mm in thickness. It brings a reliable perpetual calendar complication featuring sub-dials for date, month, day, and moon phase in addition to central hour, minute, and second. Further, it also displays a four-digit year window along with an adjustment warning indicator. This perpetual calendar will work flawlessly till 2100. Calibre 868 features an oscillation frequency of 28,800bph and a 70-hour power reserve from a single barrel.
The calibre is composed of 330 components, including 46 jewels. It is adorned with the Côtes de Genève pattern on the bridges, circular graining on the mainplate, and bevelling and polishing on the edges. It is complete with a rose gold rotor engraved with the brand’s logo.
