The Baume & Mercier Classima is a modern classic take on the watchmaking journey that the brand started almost 200 years ago. First launched in 2016, the Classima carries the simplicity of classic watches and the complications of the modern one such as dual-timers, chronographs, and small seconds.
Entering into the heritage-laden world of Baume & Mercier, Classima offers a duality with underpinned subtleties and 1940s aesthetics. Beautified with clean lines and Roman numerals, the Classima collection foretells the story of affordable yet opulent dress watches.
Coming to the complications spectrum, the collection offers various features such as moon phase, dual-time, small seconds, and chronograph.
With the moon phase iterations inside the collection, the position of the moon phases is either at the upper quadrant or the lower quadrant of the dial.
In the dual-time iteration, there are two variations of the second time zone. One is fitted inside a sub-dial at the 6 o’clock marker. The second iteration of the dual-time is fitted with a long central hand that marks the second time zone.
Also donning a chronograph inside the collection, Classima features three sub-dials displaying minutes, seconds, and hours placed at the 12, 9, and 6 o’clock markers.
Apart from the complications, the collection is also fitted with a few diamond-studded timepieces. Further beautifying the collection, a few timepieces are fitted with mother-of-pearl dials and open balance iterations.
Equipped with both automatic and quartz movements, the Classima collection features robust movements such as the family of Sellita’s SW200 or Valjoux’s 7750.
Inside the chronograph iteration, the movement controlling the timekeeping duties is the workhorse by Valjoux, the 7750.
In most of the automatic iterations, Sellita’s SW200 family takes up the duty of mechanical timekeeping. In the open heart iteration, the SW200 BV takes up the timekeeping duties, whereas, the Classima Automatic with date display is fitted with the SW200-1 movement.
Apart from the Sellita, the collection is also fitted with ETA movements, primarily the ETA 2892-A2 and ETA 2671.
