Round-UpUnabashedly Feminine: The 10 Finest Ladies Watches From Omega

Unlike several other watchmaking brands, Omega have a long and rich history of creating watches exclusively for women. With a wide range of distinguished collections, such as the iconic Constellation, the Swiss watchmakers offer timepieces that meet the requirements and desires of all generations of women. Here are 10 of their finest offerings

May We Recommend

The horological industry—much like many others—has been a bastion for men. Disproportionately dominating even the management in watch companies, men have not always made room for women and women’s products. With men’s watches always taking centre stage, novelties focused on women are few and far between. However, there are a handful of watch manufacturers who have been dedicated to ladies’ watchmaking since their inception, and among them are the Bienne-based Omega.

With an illustrious history of building reliable and accurate timepieces not only for men but also women, Omega have several milestones under their belt. They made women’s pocket watches between 1894 and 1910, introduced their first women’s wristwatch in 1900, and during the Art Deco period, created timepieces with superb designs exclusively for their female clientele. In 1951, Omega further pushed their feminist approach regarding the marketing of their ladies watches and released an advertisement that stated: ‘In all facets of life, a woman is just as active, sporty, and as busy as a man. Like him, she demands a watch for precision.’ Two years later, they introduced the then smallest rotor-equipped movement—Omega’s calibre 455—which powered the first Ladymatic watch, launched in 1955.

With an illustrious history of building reliable and accurate timepieces not only for men but also women, Omega have several milestones under their belt. Here is the De Ville Trésor Quartz 36mm, which exudes ultimate sophistication and unabashed femininity

Over the years, the brand have added iconic collections such the Constellation, Seamaster Aqua Terra, and De Ville Prestige to their fairly large repertoire and have continued to make editions of these collections dedicated to women, featuring top-notch technology and modern design. Let’s take a look at some of these stunning watches.

Omega Constellation Co-Axial Master Chronometer 29mm

Although first introduced in the 1950s, the contemporary watches of the Constellation collection find their roots in 1982—when the brand launched their Constellation ‘Manhattan’ watch. Featuring a quartz movement with a chronometer certification, an integrated bracelet, and a barrel-shaped case, the timepiece was the epitome of resilience and style. However, its most distinctive feature was the four screwed claws extending from the case over the dial. Positioned at three and six o’clock, the highly polished claws were designed to ensure better water resistance, but they eventually became a hallmark feature built for aesthetic purposes only. Here is the Constellation Co-Axial Master Chronometer 29mm, an organic extension of the original watch, which offers durability and robustness and still looks elegant enough to be worn with business attire. Featuring a three-hand timekeeping system, diamond hour markers and a date window at six o’clock, the silver-coloured dial of the watch looks aesthetically pleasing and well-balanced. At its heart, the timepiece has one of the toughest movements in the market today—the in-house calibre 8700, with a Master Chronometer certification, which means it can resist magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss. The calibre offers a power reserve of up to 50 hours.

Omega De Ville Ladymatic CoAxial 34mm

First launched in the 1950s, as a line of watches that offered ladies the complexity of men’s mechanical timepieces, the Ladymatic collection was discontinued only to be reintroduced with much flair in the early 2010s. It was a strong novelty for women at Baselworld 2011 and captured the hearts of many. It being actress and brand ambassador ‘Nicole Kidman’s choice’ obviously helped. The more recent editions uphold what the original 1950s Ladymatics stood for—superior mechanical timekeeping—as it houses an automatic co-axial movement with a 50-hour power reserve, within the 34mm steel case, water-resistant to a significant 100m. The texture on the dial, the single lugs, the wavy links of the bracelet, and the wave pattern on the sides of the case are all signature elements of the Ladymatic line. Mechanical superiority with strong design codes—this is what a truly aspirational watch looks like. Also, the timepiece is available in two variants, including a rose gold iteration and a two-tone version, which comes with a combination of steel and rose gold.

Keeping in mind the new generation of fearless and independent women, a few years ago Omega added new iterations to their De Ville Trésor collection in different colours, case materials, and straps. With a strong presence on the wearer’s wrist, the timepieces exude ultimate sophistication and unabashed femininity, thanks to their curvaceous 36mm case—available in stainless steel or 18-karat gold—featuring the flowing shape of diamonds on diagonally opposite corners. Not only this, the crown of the timepieces flaunts a red ‘liquid ceramic’ flower with a diamond in its centre, making the design even more refined. Exemplifying the femininity of the watches are their sober dials, which feature elongated and stylised Roman numerals, along with slim and tapered timekeeping hands. On turning the De Ville Trésor Quartz around, we can see the beautifully decorated caseback with an eight-petal floral motif on a mirror surface.
