ReviewTAG Heuer Aquaracer Carbon: Deep-Sea Darkness
Eclipsing the sheen of some of the boldest timepieces in the industry are the Aquaracer Carbon watches from TAG Heuer. These three special edition watches, with their pops of colour, will stand out even against the deep blue sea
May We Recommend
From the get-go, the powerful looks of the new TAG Heuer Aquaracer Carbon trio command attention. Courtesy a 41mm case that has been crafted in high-tech grade-5 titanium with black PVD, these watches are lightweight, but definitely not without substance. The dodecagonal-edged bezel of each timepiece is made from carbon and black PVD-treated steel.
What makes each timepiece in this collection stand out is the fact that during their manufacturing process, the bezel is subjected to high temperatures, while carbon fibre is injected into the resin. This creates a pattern that is unique to every piece. This unidirectional bezel also sports the essential element of a diver’s watch—a 60-minute dive scale—which is clearly legible, etched on the marble-like canvas of the carbon.
Carbon Meets Colour
TAG Heuer has made the dial of these watches nothing short of a creative playground thanks to the carbon theme, giving the watches a contemporary and somewhat futuristic look. The brand is on-trend with the prevalent carbon mania that’s taking the horological world by storm. The dial has an aesthetically pleasing look, thanks to the unique texture created by the materials used.
The watches are available with accents in three colour options—yellow, blue and rose gold—and each one has a distinctive and singular appeal. These bright and eye-catching hues can be seen in the various elements of the watches, including the timekeeping hands, minute markers, brand emblem and even on the strap stitching.
While the yellow variant is definitely the most electric and modern of the three, the blue one plays up the aquatic theme of the Aquaracer, and the rose gold version has a slightly more classical appeal. Staying true to diver’s watch standards, the timepieces’ hands and markers are infused with grey Super-LumiNova, and there is a magnifying lens over the date window at three o’clock, making it easier to read even when you’re on the move.
Power And Precision
Equipped with TAG Heuer’s automatic calibre 5 (based on the ETA 2824-2 movement), which vibrates at 4Hz, these watches pack in a power reserve of 38 hours. These durable timepieces also boast a water resistance up to 300m. Sapphire crystal, which has been given an antireflective treatment, protects the beautiful black dial. All three models are available with a nylon strap, each fitted with a titanium buckle and a diver’s extension.
This superlative trilogy that boasts bold, modern aesthetics is crafted for quintessential watch admirers who are fearless enough to map unchartered territory.
