SpotlightThe Pretty Pastel Dials Of Panerai Luminor Due 38mm

Three new Luminor Due 38mm iterations from the Swiss maison Panerai are set to expand the brand’s historic oeuvre of designing military watches on commission from the Italian Navy

May We Recommend

In an epoch-making move, the Swiss watchmaker Panerai for the first time introduces pastel dials in three iterations under the Luminor Due line: powdery pink (PAM01319), light azure (PAM01309), and creamy mint (PAM01311) shades. The pale dials aside, the new Luminor Due models carry forward most of the brand’s signature markers such as cushion-shape case with round bezel, crescent moon-shape crown-protector, and white Super-Luminova applied hands and indices with chubby Arabic numbers. Unlike the bulky proportions of the classic Panerai watches, these three iterations fit into the category of dress watches for their slimmer, lighter, and sharper dimensions.

Cradled within the 38mm polished steel cases, these pastel dials have a gradient effect, due to the application of a double-finishing polish. The dials, then, begin with the intended lighter shade before swimming into mild shadows towards the bottom. Continuing the Panerai tradition, these are ‘sandwich dials’—two stacked disks with the below one treated in glowing Super-Luminova that radiates through the cut-outs to reveal the slim indices with Arabic numerals for 12 o’clock and six o’clock. Located on either side of the coaxial hands at nine o’clock and three o’clock are the small seconds sub-dial and date aperture.

Enclosed within the case is the automatic mechanical movement, P.900 calibre, produced in-house at Panerai’s Neuchâtel manufacture. Made from 171 parts and 23 jewels, the movement beats at 28,800vph and offers a three-day power reserve. Like most Swiss watches, the watch is inbuilt with the Swiss patented Incabloc® technology launched in 1938. This ‘lyre’ or ‘double cone’ shaped anti-shock system protects the delicate pivots of the balance wheel’s from getting destroyed in case the watch falls.
