SpotlightLet The Games Begin: Omega Release the Speedmaster Chronoscope To Mark 100 Days Till Paris 2024

Decorated in hues of the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, the Omega Speedmaster Chronoscope is marked with tachymeter, telemeter and pulsometer scales in a fitting tribute to the world’s greatest multi-sport event

Omega start the 100-day countdown to the Summer Olympics to be held in Paris this year with two versions of the new Speedmaster Chronoscope, released in their capacity as official timekeepers for the event. Following the July 2023 Seamaster Diver 300M ‘Paris 2024’ special edition, the Speedmaster Chronoscope is similarly coloured in gold, black and white hues of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Additionally, the timepiece is marked with three precision scales—tachymeter, telemeter and pulsometer. Also noteworthy is the reference for the pulsometer that reads ‘Gradue pour 30 pulsations’ in French (which translates to ‘graduated for 30 pulsations’), as a nod to the Games’ host city. With fewer than 100 days before the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics commence on July 26, this is a fitting tribute to the largest multi-sport event in the world, and to Omega’s association with the Games.

Omega Speedmaster Chronoscope Goes For Gold

Housed in a 43mm case made from Moonshine gold, Omega’s proprietary yellow gold alloy, the Speedmaster Chronoscope features a black ceramic bezel marked with a tachymeter scale (used to measure speed of an object over a known distance). The steel timepiece features an anodised aluminium bezel with the tachymeter scale. A crown at three o’clock is flanked by chronograph pushers at two and four o’clock, all in the material of the case. A silvery white opaline dial stands out smartly against the black and gold or silver of the watch, with two snailed sub-dials in black for the 12-hour recorder at three, and small seconds at nine o’clock. Arabic numerals in Moonshine gold and leaf-shaped hands coated in the same gilt highlight the contrasts on the timepieces, with matching gold highlights on the sub-dials.

Contrasting textures on the dial of the Omega Speedmaster Chronoscope enhance the elegance of the timepiece. A snailed base for the gilded numerals highlight the concentric scales for the telemeter (to measure distance using sound) and pulsometer (to determine one’s heart rate or pulse) marked just inside the hour track. The innermost ring on the dial coincides with the tachymeter on the bezel to calculate speed.

Rings Of Glory: Omega Speedmaster Chronoscope

To commemorate the Games, the caseback of the Speedmaster Chronoscope features the flame logo of the Olympics in a mirror-polished finish, against a frosted base. The words ‘Paris 2024’ and the Olympic rings are stamped onto the caseback as well. Housed behind the closed commemorative caseback is the Metas-certified co-axial master chronometer calibre 9908 for the steel version, or calibre 9909 for the gold timepiece. The movement offers enhanced precision, shock resistance and anti-magnetism, and a power reserve of 60 hours. Two additional strap options include a perforated racing leather strap for the steel timepiece and a calfskin leather strap for the Moonshine gold timepiece, both in an elegant black.
