Made from a new lightweight and ultra-durable ceramic, and titanium, Omega’s latest Seamaster Planet Ocean Dark Grey dive watch, with a GMT function, is a true engineering achievement for serious divers and sport watch enthusisats alike

May We Recommend

Undeniable masters of the sea, Omega released their latest Seamaster Planet Ocean Dark Grey, made from an unprecedented version of ceramic that’s two times lighter than that used in the brand’s Seamaster Diver 300M series. With a case, bezel ring, and the brand’s patented Naiad Lock caseback made from silicon nitride ceramic (chemically known as Si3N4), the Planet Ocean Dark Grey features a dial, bezel body and folding clasp made from grade-5 titanium. Even the movement within the case is made, in part, from titanium. This essentially means that despite the heavy-duty function the watch provides, it is light, comfortable on the wrist and extremely durable.

The Lightweight Yet Strong Planet Ocean Dark Grey

The large 45.5mm case is made from silicon nitride ceramic, a material that is known to be resistant to fracture and heat, waterproof, and non-corrosive. It is known to be tougher, lighter and more durable than regular ceramic or zirconium dioxide (ZrO2). This is the first time the brand have used this ultra-strong ceramic on such a large scale, and, fittingly, for a Seamaster Planet Ocean timepiece, a collection introduced in 2005 with a water resistance rating of 600m.

The Monochromatic Elegance Of The Planet Ocean Dark Grey

A luminous dot marks 12 o’clock on the unidirectional rotating bezel, made from titanium, with a ceramic insert. The sandblasted titanium dial features Super-LumiNova-filled markers with numerals at 12, nine and six o’clock and a date window at three. Anthracite arrow hands are filled with luminous material, aiding legibility in low light. The seconds hand is tipped with orange, while the GMT hand has an orange outline around the lume-filled arrowhead. A 24-hour GMT scale marked along the flange tells the time in a desired secondary time zone. Other highlights, such as the words ‘Seamaster’, ‘GMT’ and the water resistance rating of the timepiece are highlighted in orange.

The Watch Guide
While the monochromatic elegance of the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Dark Grey—with darker shades for the ceramic and lighter for titanium—show just how serious the watch’s function is, the orange seems to add that element of fun

The watch is mounted on a textured rubber strap with a titanium folding clasp. While the monochromatic elegance of the Omega Planet Ocean Dark Grey—with darker shades for the ceramic and lighter for titanium—show just how serious the watch’s function is, the orange seems to add a touch of whimsy and sportiness. After all, this is a diver’s watch. And Omega know just how to make even a serious dive joyous.
