The new editions of Omega’s Constellation add pops of colour to the iconic collection of elegant, integrated-strap watches

When it comes to the Constellation, the sky is the limit, as Omega have demonstrated year after year with their stunning new editions. In 2022, Omega showcased more colour than ever in the 29mm and 28mm Constellation collection. The Constellation Aventurine 29mm series has dials made from aventurine—a natural quartz mineral—which means that the dial’s pattern on each watch is unique. In red, green or blue, the dials of these automatics have matching leather straps, while the bezel is either paved with diamonds or engraved with the Constellation’s classic Roman numerals. Adding more colour to the Constellation family is the 28mm quartz, featuring pastel-coloured dials. The Roman numerals on the bezel match the sublime new colours of the dials.
Constellation Certified
First introduced in 1952, Omega’s Constellation collection was a tribute to the eight precision awards Omega won in the 1930s and 40s, symbolised by the eight stars over the Geneva Observatory on the watch’s caseback. This was the first time that any brand had created a family of watches that consisted only of certified timepieces.
Constellation In The Cosmos
Aventurine, admittedly a difficult material for watchmakers to work with, has made a comeback in recent years in the world of watches—seen more as aventurine glass than as the original natural mineral that these Constellation dials are made of. Its shimmering appearance caused by light reflections coming from the multiple shaped inclusions known as mica and hematite, create a glittering effect that conjure up an image of the night sky or the infinite cosmos. This property makes it a material that would naturally find its way into the Constellation family. Yet, it is the way Omega have taken advantage of the gemstone’s variety for its dials that give the wearer a piece of Earth’s elegance, reminiscent of the vastness of space.
The 12 new Constellation variants have matching leather straps, and are set in Omega’s trademarked Sedna gold or in two-tone cases. All 29mm Master Chronometer watches run on the 50-hour automatic calibre 8700/8701. While the 8700 of the two-tone models have a rhodium-plated finish, 8701 of the full-gold watches feature a Sedna gold rotor and balance bridge, and a luxury finish. All variants have display casebacks.
More Colour In The Constellation
The Constellation 28mm has a more slender appearance—naturally because of the quartz movement, but also because of slimmer claws, more refined bezels and bevelling along the edges of the case and bracelet, which all contribute to a compact and streamlined look. All paired with integrated steel straps, the dial variants include matcha green, blush rose, patchouli blossom or celestial blue. There are accents of these hues in the Roman numerals on the bezels. Each dial has skeletonised hands in 18-karat white gold—also seen on the line indexes—with or without diamonds. All these 28mm quartz models have the Constellation Observatory medallion stamped on the caseback.
With fresh pops of colour, and in keeping with the Omega’s precision timekeeping, the new Constellation continues to shine brightly.
