ReviewLoud And Proud: The Nomos Glashütte Club Campus’s Vibrant Palette

Two new additions to the Nomos Glashütte Club Campus line continue to extol the minimalistic and youthful flavour of the said collection

May We Recommend

Reputed German watchmakers Nomos Glashütte have added two new iterations in zesty ‘cream coral’ and ‘electric green’ dials to their youthful Club Campus line, encapsulating the perfect tropical Polaroid of frolicking with cocktails on sunny beaches crowned in swaying fronds. The new models, available in two case sizes of 36 and 38.5mm, join previous editions in dial hues of ‘future orange’, ‘absolute grey’, ‘deep pink’, ‘blue purple’, ‘night’, and ’38 (white)’ and collectively embody this year’s spunky Club Campus motto: ‘Don’t wait, be bold, don’t think twice!’

Plot Twist: Club Campus

Save for the black, white and grey iterations, the Nomos Club Campus line of models display the brightest hues among the other brand collections. Despite the clean, uncluttered design vocabulary, the timekeeping elements on the dial subtly shake things up. The pop/pastel dials, for instance, stand out against the soothing grey tones of the polished stainless-steel bezel and case, lugs, and attached velour leather strap.

Breaking the monotony of the dominant dial hue is the sliver of orange via the small seconds sub-dial at six o’clock and the contrasting whitish timekeeping elements, such as the outer minute track and sub-dial, rhodium-plated hour and minute hands, with hour markers, applied with blue-luminescent Super-LumiNova. Additionally, the hour markers combine Arabic numerals for 10, 12 and two o’clock, Roman numerals for eight and four o’clock, and stick indices for the rest.

Customisable Club Campus Casebacks

While a domed sapphire crystal glass seals the dial from corrosive elements, the screwed down caseback needs special mention. Save for engravings of 10ATM (100m water resistance, which is suitable for swimming), the word ‘Campus’, and the model number along the periphery, the caseback is largely empty. Like a blank slate to encourage interactive design experience and increase rarity value, as the buyer can ‘tattoo’ here a message, phone number, quote, caricature, just about anything to personalise the timepiece.

The self-winding Nomos Club Campus models run on the manually crafted in-house Alpha calibre, made resplendent with rhodium-plated surfaces, perlage ratchet, and 17 blue tempered screws. The Alpha calibre offers a 43-hour power reserve, which means it needs winding about every two days.

Propagators of silent luxury who might find the Nomos Club Campus a bit out there, can take recourse in the fact that the watch with its small case variants and 8.5mm thickness, overall appears like one much-needed burst of colour that can otherwise be easily tucked under a buttoned cuff.
