Maurice Lacroix, known for their accessible luxury timepieces with in-house manufacture movements, unveiled new versions of their Pontos Chronograph earlier this year. In Geneva this week, the Jura-based watch manufacturer updated their existing Aikon Quartz and Pontos Day Date collections. Here’s a look at their latest timepieces.
Pontos Day-Date
Maurice Lacroix added new updates to their Pontos Day Date line of watches with three stunning dial options in black, anthracite and gold, and silver and gold, powered by the brand’s automatic ML143 calibre. The black version has contrasting rhodium-plated timekeeping hands and indexes, while the anthracite and silver models have gold-plated hands and indexes.
The 41mm case of the new Pontos Day Date models is in keeping with the line’s design code, with alternating brushed and polished surfaces. The timepieces feature the collection’s signature double lugs, recessed minute track in the middle of the dial, and the easily interchangeable three link stainless steel strap or black leather strap with the ‘M’ logo. The dial is nicely balanced with the day aperture at 12 o’clock and the date aperture vertically opposite at six o’clock.
The new packaging for these timepieces is worth a mention. The latest Pontos Day Date versions are now delivered in eco-friendly packaging material made from upcycled #tide Ocean Material, which clears the seas of 34 plastic bottles per watch box. “Each box includes a space to store an additional strap in a dedicated compartment and features a QR code that when scanned, links to a digital user manual, obviating the need for paper instructions, once again mitigating any ecological impact,” states the brand.
Aikon Quartz
The brand released four new 35mm quartz timepieces in their bestselling line, Aikon, instantly identifiable by six arms on the bezel. “We don’t say ladies or gents anymore,” said the brand’s managing director Stephane Waser at the unveiling. “We’ve updated the design so it works for both men and women.” The new 35mm stainless steel timepieces have a variety of sunray-brushed dial options, which is what sets the Aikon Quartz line apart from the automatic that features a clous de Paris motif on either of the dials—‘pure’ white, ‘knowing and naughty’ black, and ‘conservative’ blue.
The white and black dials feature diamond studded indexes, while the blue version has contrasting applied rhodium-plated indexes. The white model is mounted on an integrated five-row stainless steel bracelet that has a decorated holding clasp or a white rubber strap, and the blue and black versions are presented on matching rubber straps but are easily interchangeable in keeping with the line’s Easy Strap Exchange system.
The brand also introduced a new bi-colour watch in a 40mm case, silver sun-brushed dial, and gold-toned hands and indexes. This gold tone also frames the date aperture at three o’clock, the Aikon’s signature arms on the bezel, and the five-link integrated and interchangeable bracelet.
