SpotlightLong Live The King: Introducing The Maurice Lacroix Aikon #Tide KOTC timepiece

Combining sport, sustainability and Swiss luxury, Maurice Lacroix unveiled their Aikon #Tide KOTC timepiece, a special edition created in collaboration with the King of the Court volleyball championship. In a 40mm black Aikon #Tide case made from recycled ocean plastic, the dial features a golden crown emblem and white accents, combining colours of the King of the Court beach volleyball championships held in different cities all over the world. This is the second KOTC timepiece the brand have created since their collaboration with King of the Court started in 2021. However, it is the first KOTC timepiece in an Aikon #Tide case, making it that much more special because it connects the youthful and urban design language of the Aikon, with a beach sport and recycled plastic from the ocean.

The Aikon #Tide KOTC Rules The Beach

In 2021, Maurice Lacroix became official timekeepers of the beach volleyball championships that are held every few months in beach towns the world over. The idea of the championship is that five teams rally against each other with spectators in ‘sky boxes’ arranged closely around the court. The last team standing becomes the Queen or King of the volleyball court. The tournament, which was held in Doha, Miami, Hamburg and Luxembourg earlier this year, is currently being played at Rotterdam in the Netherlands. “The Aikon #Tide KOTC perfectly encapsulates who we both are. Maurice Lacroix is urban, accessible and celebrates success, values we share in common with King of the Court,” says Stephane Waser, managing director of Maurice Lacroix.

The brand unveiled the first Aikon King of the Court special edition in 2022, in a 42mm titanium case with a silver-white dial, black chronograph counters and golden yellow accents. The tournament hues were further highlighted on the FKM rubber strap. Inside, the watch featured a quartz movement, with a special celebratory caseback engraved with the King of the Court logo.

King Of The Court And The Oceans: Aikon #Tide KOTC

Now, on the new Aikon #tide KOTC timepiece, this crown logo features prominently as a golden yellow motif all over the sunray-brushed black dial. The minute track surrounding the dial and the seconds hand are in a matching golden hue. Slim baton hour markers and matching timekeeping hands are coated in white Super-LumiNova, completing the black, white and golden colour scheme of the tournament. The brand’s ‘M’ logo in gold and the name Maurice Lacroix stand out in white at 12 o’clock, and a gold-edged date window at three o’clock displays the date in white on black.

A contrasting textured black 40mm Aikon #tide case and matching bezel with six arms frame the dial. Incidentally, it was in 2021—the same year that Maurice Lacroix announced their partnership with the volleyball tournament—that they introduced their first Aikon #Tide collection. Each Aikon #Tide timepiece is made from 17 plastic bottles recovered from the ocean. This is highlighted prominently on the caseback of the Aikon #Tide KOTC.

With sport, sustainability and an urban outlook combined, the Aikon #Tide KOTC is a watch that delivers more than its royal looks. As Wilco Nijland, CEO and founder of the Queen and King of the Court championships puts it, “A watch with a true story behind it—made from plastic from the ocean and created for beach volleyball lovers!”
