With its integrated bracelet, iconic bezel with six arms, and distinctive finishes on its dials, Maurice Lacroix’s vast Aikon line had something to offer just about anyone—if one wanted something in classic shades, that is. Now, though, with the release of their latest Aikon Automatic timepieces in shades of turquoise, pink and orange, Maurice Lacroix’s bestselling line appeals to an infinitely wider audience. With a new dial in ‘tanager turquoise’ in three case sizes, ‘ballerina pink’ in 35mm and 39mm timepieces, and ‘orange soda’ in a robust 42mm case, the functional, urban and sporty-looking Aikon Automatic is now ready to have some fun.
Aikon Automatic: Ready For Work And Play
First introduced in 2016, today, the Maurice Lacroix Aikon line is instantly recognisable by its round case and six arms—a trait it inherited from its predecessor, the brand’s 1990s bestselling Calypso line. With crisp lines on the case and an integrated bracelet to match, the Aikon collection has grown considerably to include race-ready chronographs, adventure-ready dive-friendly watches, and workplace-ready date-displaying timepieces. Although, of all these, the best loved and most practical everyday-ready sport watch is the Aikon Automatic, first released in 2018, with a distinctive clous de Paris pattern on the dial and a date aperture at three o’clock.
Aikon—Bathed In New Summer Hues
The latest additions to the Aikon Automatic line come in not just three cool new colours but also three different sizes, because the brand no longer label their watches as meant for men or women. Instead, they differentiate the watches by size. The 35mm stainless steel case with the six-armed bezel now comes in two dial colours, the ballerina pink and tanager turquoise. The pastel shade of turquoise—to evoke visuals of shallow ocean water—resembles opal more than it does the bright blue bird it is named after, but, as they say, ‘a rose by any other name…’ The peachy pink, on the other hand, is reminiscent of the sky just before sunset. A combination of diamond-studded and applied double-baton indexes enhance the clous de Paris decoration on the dials of the 35mm watches.
The 39mm watches feature the same pastel shades of pink and turquoise as their smaller sized siblings. However, the absence of the diamonds on the dial give these more comfortably-sized timepieces a sportier appeal.
While the turquoise dial is also available in a 42mm case size, the third new hue, orange soda, makes an appearance only in this more robust version of the Aikon Automatic. Naturally, the vibrant orange dial stands out from its siblings for its colour, and subtle, contrasting black accents on its indexes and hands. Even the date at three is displayed in white against black, as opposed to the black-on-white for the pastel watches.
Aikon Automatic’s Colourful Versatility
The watches come mounted on superior-quality FKM rubber straps in colours that match the dial. These straps are marked with Maurice Lacroix’s ‘M’ logo and offer the brand’s quick and easy interchangeability without any tools. Additionally, the watches come with a five-link integrated steel bracelet with satin and brushed finishes that match the case and arms. Both the straps offer a distinctly unique aesthetic when paired with the coloured dials. Inside the watch is the brand’s automatic calibre ML 115, with timekeeping and date functions.
With these subtle—and vibrant—new hues, Maurice Lacroix show that the Aikon Automatic has a lot more to offer than meets the eye. Elegant as well as sporty, this practical, everyday watch is as ready for the office as it is for after-hours entertainment. The Aikon Automatic now shows its true colours as more than just a time-telling accessory, even if each of these watches is limited to only 888 pieces.
