In 2023, Laurent Ferrier made waves with the Grand Sport Tourbillon Pursuit, winning the GPGH’s Tourbillon Watch Prize. Building on this success, the brand unveiled two new timepieces under their Classic collection at the Watches and Wonders Geneva 2024. Both interpretations feature an annual calendar and mark the brand’s debut in moon phase complications. The Classic Moon case comes in polished stainless steel and 18-karat red gold, housing distinct dials adorned with intricate hand-finished details. By introducing complementary red gold and steel references, Laurent Ferrier give a fresh take on their classic aesthetic approach that blends tradition and innovation.

First Lunar Love: The Laurent Ferrier Classic Moon Blue And Silver

Laurent Ferrier Classic Moon watches offer a timeless aesthetic appeal by showcasing complications such as the annual calendar and moon phase. This is further amplified by the carefully curated dials that feature vertical brushing for a soft interplay of light. Each iteration showcases a well-proportioned 40mm case with tasteful curved lugs that provide a comfortable and ergonomic fit on the wrist. Further capturing the essence of Laurent Ferrier’s design philosophy, the watches enjoy a curved bezel and the convenience of setting the watch with a ball-shaped crown.

On the Classic Moon Silver watch, the slender Roman numerals and baton markers are framed by the petrol blue chemin de fer minute track with a classic font for the 31 date numerals, including a cherry red 31st to match the central date pointer. The hour and minute hands are ruthenium-treated white gold versions of the Assegai-shaped hands. For the Classic Moon Blue version, the encircling date numerals are rendered in a pastel blue that matches the central date pointer, while the 31st is in azure; a slightly darker hue. Its tip touches the chemin de fer outer circle, while the slender Assegai-shaped hour and seconds hands are rendered in white-lacquered white gold. The Classic Moon Silver features a brown calf leather strap with matching Alcantara lining, while the Classic Moon Blue has a hand-sewn dark grey Nubuck strap with soft Alcantara lining.

A Play Of Shimmer, Blue And Grey

For the first time, Laurent Ferrier have added the moon phase display on their watch dial. Positioned at six o’clock, the design appears enchanting for its aventurine glass display, set within a recessed grey-blue opaline circle and powder grey markers. This combination creates a gentle contrast against the opaline grey-blue dial. A mystical dark blue moon disc on the dial shows the moon’s phases. The disc, crafted from aventurine glass, is engraved with moon and star shapes in hand-applied white paint and SuperLumiNova. The realistic imagery incorporates details like craters on the moon’s surface. A small baton pointer indicates seconds, while the northern and southern hemisphere moon phases are shown by N and S markers.

The two iterations are powered by the manual winding Calibre LF126.02 movement, redesigned to become a robust engine that beats at the 3Hz frequency and generates up to 80-hour power reserve.

By incorporating this inaugural moon phase complication, the brand have united classic horological artistry with cutting-edge sci-tech advancements, which is their overall ideology.
