ReviewTravel The World With The Jaeger-LeCoultre Duomètre Unique Travel Time

In today’s interconnected world where travelling has become part and parcel of life, travel watches are a popular accessory. In tune with this, Jaeger-LeCoultre presents the Duomètre Unique Travel Time—a truly unique timepiece that pushes boundaries and brings the world to the tips of your fingers

May We Recommend

As humanity progresses and world economies become more close-knit, travel has come within the reach of most people. It is indeed true when they say that the world has never been smaller. Today, every traveller has in their arsenal a few things that make travel as hassle-free as possible. Of course, there are your toiletries and travel essentials (think: neck pillows to keep that pain in the neck at bay; comfortable clothes for extended hours of sitting and lounging; sleeping masks for undisturbed shut-eye…you get the drift). However, there’s another accessory that travellers have been swearing by since its very inception—the watch.

JLC Duometre Unique Travel Time
More than just an accessory, the beautiful and functional Jaeger-LeCoultre Duomètre Unique Travel Time is a travel watch like none other

When you’re travelling, a watch really comes in handy. Whether it’s to tie your outfit together when you’re on a business trip or to be able to see how delayed your flight is so that you can complain loudly in the terminal—a watch has many uses when you’re travelling. And when that watch comes with the ability to show you the time at your destination, down to the minute? Even better! And so Jaeger-LeCoultre, the Swiss brand synonymous with exquisite watches that boast fine designs and high complications, released an exceptional travel watch that would serve people who travel between two time zones very well. The white gold iteration of Duomètre Unique Travel Time was launched by the brand at SIHH 2013, and then the pink gold version in 2014.

A Unique Take On Time

What makes this travel watch unique in the world of travel watches—and Jaeger-LeCoultre knows how unique it actually is, as evinced from the name they’ve given it—is that you can set the time in the second time zone down to the minute. This timepiece has two sub-dials—the one on the right indicating home time and the one on the left indicating travel time. The left sub-dial makes it easy for one to read the travel time—with the hour displayed through the aperture and the minutes via the hand, coloured blue in both variants to make it more distinctive. The time is set using the crown on the right, while the pushers on the left assist in adjusting the jumping hour indication of the second time zone. The second time zone’s minutes can also be changed via the crown. At six o’clock sits a small globe that displays the world’s time zones. It rotates every 24 hours, synchronised as it is with the second time zone, while it also serves as the day-night indicator. The central hand of the timepiece indicates the seconds.

Seeing Double

Eagle-eyed watch wearers will notice that below each of the sub-dials are separate 50-hour power reserve indicators, and that is another fascinating aspect of this watch. The 42mm Duomètre Unique Travel Time is powered by the manual-winding Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 383, which boasts the incredible Dual-Wing construction. This essentially means that there are two separate movements, with their own gear train and main spring barrel, which power the two functions—home time and travel time—independently. They are connected through a regulating organ, which ensures that there is absolutely minimal loss of precision due to friction. Winding the crown in one direction powers one function and the opposite direction powers the other. This hand-finished movement can be admired through the sapphire crystal caseback. Surrounding it is a ring engraved with the names of cities corresponding to time zones around the globe, adding to the appeal of this travel watch. The watches are fashioned with either a black or brown leather strap, enhancing their formal appearance.

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Duomètre Unique Travel Time is a watch that is formidably functional in a world that is become more and more connected as time goes by. In the rush of the rat race where it’s every man for himself, it’s good to have a reliable travel companion strapped to your wrist. The Duomètre Unique Travel Time is Jaeger-LeCoultre’s homage to the horologist bitten by the travel bug, fearless in their pursuit of discovering the world, one city at a time, but also those whose heart will always long for home.
