ReviewHauntingly Beautiful: The Jacob & Co Ghost Carbon Fibre

The Ghost by Jacob & Co is a highly original and imaginative timepiece featuring a lightweight, pentagonal case and a 20-time zone quartz movement

May We Recommend

Jacob & Co have always been a brand that thrive on originality, and the Ghost timepiece is no exception. Designed by Jacques Fournier of Horology Design Ltd, the Ghost results from two years of research and development, featuring 20 different time zones. The digital movement contains only 103 components, resulting in a total weight of just 12 grams. To fit such a lightweight yet complex movement and a GPS system within a 14mm-thick case was an incredible challenge technically, according to the brand.

The Curious Case of the Ghost

The Ghost flaunts an unconventional five-sided case that may seem strange initially but grows on the wearer with time. Despite its large size, the 47mm wide case is surprisingly comfortable. The pentagonal case is expertly crafted from high-quality stainless steel, coated in black PVD, and features a bezel made from camouflage-patterned rubberised carbon fibre. The caseback is micro-blasted with polished screws and bears the engraved Jacob & Co logo, adding to the overall sophistication of the watch. This is a timepiece that exudes both a stealthy and futuristic vibe.

Reliable as the Rising Sun

The Ghost timepiece boasts impressive five city displays that are synchronised for absolute accuracy. Simply set the Greenwich Mean Time and correct date, and all 20 pre-set cities will align accordingly, with your chosen city displayed at three o’clock and the others in the remaining windows. The seven colour options for the LCD displays can also be easily changed with a single push of the button at three o’clock. Not only can the Ghost be manually set, but it also automatically synchronises with the internet time signal when connected via USB to a Mac or PC, with automatic adjustments for daylight saving time and leap years. To keep up with the demands of the high-performance LCD display, the lithium battery can be conveniently recharged with the cable slot on the back of the case. Additionally, the day, date, month, and remaining power reserve for the battery can be displayed for convenience.

Despite the technical complexities of the customised LCD display, this watch is remarkably easy to use. To save battery life, the screens are blank unless activated–due to the intense backlighting.

With a range of customisable features, a high-precision Swiss quartz movement, and water resistance to 30m, it’s perfect for those who want a watch that is both luxurious and playful. The watch is a true representation of the brand’s high-end, high-risk, and highly original ethos, and wearing it is a sure-fire way to attract attention from seasoned enthusiasts and regular folk alike.
