Established in 1992, young watch brand Frederique Constant have earned a fine reputation among horology lovers as they offer high-quality Swiss-made wrist watches, at reasonable prices. This is what makes the brand so attractive to those who enjoy luxury watches that are bang for the buck. While in the beginning, Frederique Constant were using movements supplied by third parties, it was in 2004 that they launched their first in-house calibre, and since then the brand has been able to develop 31 in-house mechanical movements. Apart from technical innovation, the watches also stand out for their sophisticated designs, in most cases enhanced by precious stones, without going over-the-top. Here’s a look at some of their finest resplendent timepieces.
Highlife Automatic
A perfect blend of contemporary, classic, and sporty-chic, this timepiece comes in a 34mm stainless-steel case with a matching bracelet. The dial is dark-grey with a matte finish, and features an embossed globe pattern in the centre. This three-hand timekeeper also comes with a date window positioned at three o’clock, applied indexes at six, nine and 12 o’clock, and the hands are tinged with luminescent material. There are a total of eight diamonds that serve as indexes, adding just the right amount of sheen to this versatile watch. It is powered by an automatic movement that keeps the timepiece ticking for at least 38 hours and is visible through the exhibition caseback. One can also customise by swapping the original bracelet for a rubber strap that’s supplied with the watch.
Highlife Automatic Sparkling
This resplendent creation is an ode to the starry night sky and truly lives up to its name. The Highlife Automatic Sparkling comes in a limited-edition of 888 pieces only and feature the hours, minutes, seconds, and a rectangular date aperture at three o’clock. It comes in a 34mm stainless-steel case, water-resistant to 50m, topped by a bezel studded with 60 diamonds. And the sparkle continues on the watch face as well, which showcases eight diamonds used as indexes, set against a deep-blue backdrop. Another highlight here is the integrated-bracelet design—where there are no horns for the strap—which allows for greater flexibility, and helps the watch sit naturally on the wrist. This timepiece is driven by an automatic movement, beating at a frequency of 28,800vph with a 38-hour power reserve.
Classics Art Deco Oval
Inspired by the Art Deco style that was extremely popular in the 1920s, this oval timekeeper is part of the Frederique Constant Art Deco collection, first launched in 2007. It features watches that are luxurious and opulent, with rounded curves and corners, showcasing perfect symmetry and timeless design featuring minimalist details. It comes in a 30mm stainless-steel case, water-resistant to 30m and is presented on a matching steel bracelet. The gorgeous blue dial stands out against this framework and features a guilloche decoration right at the centre. There are Roman numerals at three, six, nine and 12 o’clock, and eight diamonds that serve as indexes that also enhance the vintage appeal of this watch. The intricate fluted caseband along with its crown embellished with a cabochon, further take it up a notch when it comes to understated elegance.
Classics Delight Automatic
A perfect combination of elegance and modern design, this 33mm timepiece comes in full stainless-steel including the case and bracelet and features a white mother-of-pearl dial, applied silver-coloured indexes set with eight diamonds, and a light-grey guilloche decoration at the centre. It also displays the hours and minutes, and there’s a date window at six o’clock. Assembled by hand at the Frederique Constant manufacture in Switzerland, the Delight Automatic is driven by the reliable and accurate automatic calibre FC-306, which supplies the watch with a 42-hour power reserve.
Slimline Moonphase
Simple, refined, elegant, and affordable—the Slimline Moonphase watches are the epitome of sophistication as they bring together the classic moon phase function along with evergreen diamonds. These watches range high on the classical appeal as they come in round, 30mm stainless-steel cases that feature gorgeous mother-of-pearl dials and diamond markers, with the moon phase display at six o’clock. There is also an elegant ‘onion’ crown at three o’clock, topped by an elegant blue cabochon. These watches are available on leather straps, two-tone steel bracelets or full stainless-steel bracelets. They are brought to life by the FC-206 quartz movement, guaranteeing five years’ operation.
