ReviewA Matt Black Affair: The New Open-worked Frederique Constant Slimline Perpetual Calendar

After showcasing the first iteration of the open-worked Slimline Perpetual Calendar in brown hue, Frederique Constant now unveil a matt black edition of the Manufacture Slimline Perpetual Calendar

May We Recommend

Frederique Constant’s philosophy and brand values are represented by stunning design, superior quality, and relentless innovation. Amongst their many brilliant collections, such as the Manufacture, Highlife, and Classics, are several Slimline watches; each possessing unique traits. With both quartz and automatic versions, the Slimline was initiated to offer refined shapes, spectacular curves, and panache. The idea behind the Slimline range is revealed by the gorgeous design direction that the collection takes and the highly functional calibres that power these watches. Slimline watches house different types of movements, including the iconic Heart Beat Automatic, the popular FC-705, or the high-end Perpetual Calendar Manufacture. To extend this series even further, Frederique Constant have introduced a 42mm Manufacture Slimline Perpetual Calendar with grey anthracite DLC coating. With its extremely limited edition of 35 pieces, this perpetual calendar complication watch comes with a rarity tag.

Meet The Matt: Frederique Constant Manufacture Slimline Perpetual Calendar

The Frederique Constant Manufacture Slimline Perpetual Calendar features a generous black style, including the case, strap, and busy open-worked dial that showcases the inner workings of the robust FC-775 manufacture movement. Completing the overall look are several satin-polished components, blued screws, and a sapphire crystal caseback.

The automatic movement FC-775 enables hours, minutes, moonphase, date, day, month, and leap year functions. This robust movement beats at 28,800vph and offers a 38-hour power reserve. This 42mm Perpetual Calendar watch is water-resistant up to 30m. The matt black dial with printed indexes in white delivers a classic contrast to the watch that comes attached to a black nylon strap with a folding buckle.

The second watch in this collaboration is inspired by the first one in brown hue. The matt black watch takes cues from the previous timepiece, created through the amazing teamwork of Frederique Constant and Peter Speake, the creator of the brand Speake-Marin, who left the brand a few years after he created it. This collaboration enhances the brand’s Perpetual Calendar watches, originally introduced in 2016, bringing them to a higher level of excellence. The British watchmaker, also known for his recently started venture—The Naked Watchmaker—joining hands with Frederique Constant offers an exciting mix of British and Swiss watchmaking, evident in the two Manufacture Slimline Perpetual Calendar timepieces.

A Design Evolution Of The Slimline Perpetual Calendar With An Open-worked Dial

The Frederique Constant Slimline series does not hold back from offering unique takes on the existing line-up of watches. While the Manufacture Slimline Moonphase is a clean dial except for the moonphase feature, the series revels in the Manufacture Perpetual Calendar timepieces that flaunt four sub-dials as the core design philosophy. And then you have a fantastic design evolution making its way through the Slimline series, offering the latest Manufacture Slimline Perpetual Calendar in matt black and brown hues, with open-worked dials.

The skeletonised Slimline versions mark a bold departure from the Classic Slimline Small Seconds or the Slimline Heart Beat Automatic. The Manufacture Slimline Perpetual Calendar with open-worked dials takes it a notch further compared to the already exquisite Manufacture Slimline Monolithic watches with two sub-dials. With time, Frederique Constant are progressively mastering the craft of designing intricate dials while maintaining a sharp focus on readability.

The Slimline series offers steel and gold cases in different sizes. Powered by a quartz movement, the Classics Slimline Small Seconds watch measures 39mm, while the Classics Slimline Heart Beat and Manufacture Slimline Monolithic timepieces both measure 40mm. The Manufacture Slimline Moonphase timepieces are larger in size and align with the size of the Manufacture Perpetual Calendar watches, along with the most recent and open-worked references.

The Frederique Constant Manufacture Slimline series effortlessly caters to a spectrum of tastes and functional preferences, establishing itself as the ultimate go-to collection for those seeking a perfect blend of style and utility.
