Czapek’s love affair with guilloche is no secret in the world of luxury watchmaking. With their dial-making partner Metalem, a high-end Swiss dial maker, Czapek have created a whole new guilloche pattern for their latest Quai des Bergues models that are offered with a blue or black dial. This intricate creation has been named Double Soleil, which portrays an optical illusion involving halos on either side of the Sun under certain atmospheric conditions. These two references are now even more desirable as Czapek present them in a fresh 40.5mm case size, an addition to the previous 38.5mm and 42.5mm cases found in the Quai des Bergues collection. Just like the other timepieces in the Quai des Bergues series, the latest iterations take inspiration from a vintage pocket watch crafted by François Czapek in the mid-1800s.
The steel case of the Quai des Bergues No17 Double Soleil Tuxedo Black and Deep Blue is in line with the design codes of the collection and receives refinement of the case-side recesses, allowing it to seamlessly house the movement. Additionally, slight adjustments have been made to the lug angle for enhanced wrist comfort.
The case’s organic design blends with the alligator leather strap, which is available in either black or blue, depending on the selected model. Adding a touch of poetic elegance to the No17 Double Soleil models is the enchanting hand-guilloche pattern on the dials, inspired by the elusive parhelion phenomenon—a rare winter spectacle when the sun hangs low in the sky.

The sleek steel case of the Quai des Bergues No17 Double Soleil Tuxedo Black and Deep Blue features a curved sapphire crystal glass, along with a sapphire crystal caseback. The exclusive Czapek guilloche Double Soleil design—also reminiscent of the 1930’s deco era—shows elongated indexes and rhodium-plated arrow steel hands that together add more panache to the already electrifying package.
The manual-winding SXH1 movement, delivering a massive power reserve of around seven days, housed inside the new Quai des Bergues models received several changes in 2022, making the engine more expressive with its intricate openwork that shows the three-quarter plate and reveals the inner workings of the gear train.
