A quick recap of Baselworld 2017 with our selection of the top 29 new watches launched this year.
May We Recommend
10. Breitling Navitimer Rattrapante
A split-seconds chronograph is considered as one of the most sophisticated horological complications (ever). Not only did Breitling bring it to the Navitimer this year, but they developed it entirely by themselves! The Navitimer Rattrapante features the brand’s first in-house split-seconds chronograph movement, ever. Caliber B03 is also officially chronometer-certified and beats at 28,800 vph (4 Hz) with a fantastic power reserve of over 70 hours. Breitling also announced that the movement has a couple of new innovations introduced to it, which even includes an energy saving mode. We’ll be learning more soon when we get our hands on this one.

11. Seiko Presage Multiple Hands
Seiko kept things pretty low-key with their launches this year but the big news from the brand was that the Presage is now going to be a non-limited edition. We obviously paid a visit to their booth to find out what’s new!The 2017 Presage draws inspiration from Seiko’s first ever wristwatch from 1913 that also had an enamel dial. Enamel dials, like we all know are mostly available in high-end Swiss watches and are quite rare in Japanese watches. For Seiko to offer a white enamel dial at an affordable price point (without being a limited edition) will probably make the Presage a high seller all over the world.
Four new references of the Presage made their debut at Basel, all with enamel dials, but our favourite was the Seiko Presage Multiple hands, a watch based on the brand’s first wristwatch (The 1913 Laurel) and made by master craftsman Mitsuru Yokozawa.

12. Raymond Weil Les Paul Gibson
The love of music is inseparable from Raymond Weil. We all know that. This year, a new piece in Raymond Weil’s Freelancer collection celebrates the spirit of Gibson’s iconic Les Paul guitar and its role in the history of rock ‘n’ roll: the Raymond Weil Freelancer Chronograph “Gibson Les Paul.” The specs as you would expect, are great. But what’s fantastic about this collector’s piece is the special presentation box. You have to see it to really be awed by it.

13. Oris Big Crown 1917
The last 5 years have been fantastic for Oris with all their fantastic launches. And they added another great watch to their catalogue this year – the Big Crown 1917, not because their catalogue was missing an old-school pilot’s watch, but rather because they’re masters of it since 1917, even before they started making any other watches. The new Big Crown 1917 borrows many of its cult classic features, including the 40mm stainless steel case, onion-shaped crown, silver dial, Arabic numerals, and blued steel hour and minute hands.
Oris said they will offer 1,917 pieces of this new pilot’s, and because this is a special piece, it will also come with an exclusive leather travel pouch with two leather strap options and tools to change them. Certainly a keeper.

14. Longines Heritage 1945
The heritage collection, too, was celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. As a mark of tribute to the brand’s most successful collection, Longines introduced the Heritage 1945, a watch made for the loyalists of the Heritage and also designed for those who are looking for a great vintage timepiece. What caught our fancy the most about this watch was the dial – a mix of Arabic numerals and silver cabochons, stamped onto a convex dial, giving it a great mid-twentieth century look. The watch also comes with a great beige leather strap, with a nubuck finish. The Heritage 1945 is powered by the brand’s very own L609.3 automatic self-winding movement, which has a fairly decent 42-hour power reserve.

15. Carl F. Bucherer Manero Power Reserve
Carl F. Bucherer brought colour into play on the Manero, for the first time. The classic Manero PowerReserve saw two unique models unveiled in limited editions. The Manero Power Reserve features an integrated semicircular ‘power reserve’ display at 3 o’clock on an elaborate dial in bright midnight blue.
The Manero PowerReserve is driven by the CFB A1011 caliber automatic movement, a movement that belongs to the brand’s most successful CFB A1000 family, entirely designed as well as developed by Carl F. Bucherer in-house. It features the celebrated peripheral rotor and a great power reserve of at least 55 hours.

16. Frederique Constant Flyback Chronograph
Last year at Baselworld, Frederique Constant made a storm with its first perpetual calendar under $10,000. They don’t seem to slow down on the ‘affordable luxury’ segment at all because this year they revealed their first ever in-house flyback chronograph, for less than $4000.
The new Flyback Chronograph is powered by the brand’s caliber FC-760, a movement that took six years alone to develop. In terms of design, Frederique Constant took inspiration from the classic chronographs of the 30s to create this new watch. We don’t get many good looking, affordable & reliable watches these days and we believe this will surely be a big hit among classic watch lovers.

17. Corum Bubble Rap Booba 2017
Corum have always broken the codes of luxury watchmaking, particularly since 2000 with the introduction of the Bubble – the world’s first thick domed or ‘bubble’ sapphire crystal watch. The watch has always been perceived as a ‘youthful’ watch over the years, which is why this year, the brand teamed up with a number of young artists and asked them to reinterpret the watch and create their very own edition. The one that caught our attention (out of the lot) was the Bubble made by famous French rapper and entrepreneur – Booba. The watch with its modern dial and three case options perfectly captured the Bubble spirit and will surely be a favorite among youngsters.

18. Hublot Tech Frame Ferrari
Hublot celebrated Ferrari’s 70th anniversary with a new watch that was designed in close collaboration with the Italian car maker’s design team. And like their cars, this watch is all about aerodynamics, and fantastic looks.
The case of this watch was, in fact, designed at Ferrari’s workshop in Maranello, Italy, using the same creative process used to make their cars, which makes this watch the first ‘product’ designed by Ferrari that is not a car.

19. Tissot T-Touch Solar
Tissot announced the release of a new version of the T-Touch Solar for the first time in 3 years. The new T-Touch Expert Solar II is a nice-looking timepiece with an updated dial style (as you can already see), but what’s interesting about the new dial is that the photovoltaic cells (ones that power the watch) are not visible or in the face anymore (unlike the original). A more covert dial approach was taken by Tissot for this one and the brand announced new features on this watch as well!
