About the Trilobe Les Matinaux Collection
Founded by Gautier Massonneau, Trilobe embarked on an intense research and development journey to create a timepiece that ventured off the beaten path in the watchmaking industry, incorporating the innovative wandering hours complication. After five years of development, the brand launched the Les Matinaux collection in 2018, a warm tribute to one of the most renowned modern French poets, René Char. Today, the Trilobe Les Matinaux collection, which translates to ‘mornings' in English, manifests the complex emotion evoked by the brand.
Features
A perfect amalgamation of the wandering hours system and fine watchmaking, Les Matinaux does not feature hands to display time. Instead, it is displayed by three-pointers in the shape of the brand's logo over three discs rotating clockwise. The hours are placed at the perimeter of the dial, and the minutes and seconds are displayed on two concentric discs placed off-centre. Son of an architect, Gautier's fascination with kinetic architecture is displayed with finesse in the Les Matinaux collection. The polished rings and a sunray-finished dial perfectly complement each other with a Sainte-Chapelle rose window providing a peep inside the movement. An iteration is also available in the Les Matinaux collection, called the ‘Secret' Edition. This timepiece showcases a star-studded sky on the dial, capturing a still frame of the sky from a specific date, time, and location chosen by the wearer.
Mechanism
Designed exclusively for Trilobe in France, the X-Centric is an automatic movement made in Le Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. The X-Centric is equipped with a micro-rotor which combines the “artistically offbeat” approach of the brand with traditional Swiss watchmaking. With a perfect blend of form and function, the X-Centric provides a power reserve of approximately 48 hours while vibrating at 28,800vph.
ABOUT THE MOVEMENT
Trilobe's timepieces feature the X-Centric calibre, an automatic movement specifically created for Trilobe that was launched in 2020. It took 5 years of research and development to produce this movement. The company has partnered with La Chaux-de-Fonds-based manufacturer, Le Cercle des Horlogers, to develop the automatic movement with a micro-rotor. The goal was to combine technical excellence with an artistically unconventional approach while upholding Swiss watchmaking traditions. The calibre was designed with extraordinary architectural perspectives, reflecting the essence of Trilobe's journey. The unique movement is not only technically intricate but also showcases meticulously handmade finishes, adding to its iconic status. The modern and refined finishes, both visible and concealed within the watch, transform the calibre into an artistic masterpiece, with micro-blasted and wedged bridges & plates, and hand-polished wedged ratchet, all adorned in Trilobe's distinct hues.
