Founded by Gautier Massonneau in 2013, Trilobe began intense research and development to create a timepiece that took a road less travelled in the watchmaking industry, the Wandering Hours. After 5 years of development, the brand launched the Les Matinaux, a timepiece which was a warm tribute to one of the most renowned modern French poets, René Char. Today, the Trilobe Les Matinaux collection manifests the complex emotion evoked by the brand.
A perfect amalgamation of wandering hours system and fine watchmaking, Les Matinaux doesn’t feature hands to display time. Instead, it is displayed by three-pointers in the shape of the brand’s logo over 3 three discs rotating clockwise. The hours are placed at the perimeter of the dial, and the minutes and seconds are displayed on two concentric discs placed off-centre. Son of an architect, Gautier’s fascination with kinetic architecture is displayed with finesse in the Les Matinaux collection. The polished rings and a sunray-finished dial perfectly complement each other with a rosace pattern window providing a peep inside the movement.
An intimate iteration is also available in the Les Matinaux collection. Called the ‘Secret’ Edition, the timepiece displays the exact setup of stars that were on the date provided to the watchmakers.
Designed exclusively for Trilobe in France, the X-Centric is an automatic movement made in Le Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. The X-Centric is equipped with a micro-rotor which combines the “artistically offbeat” approach of the brand with traditional Swiss watchmaking. With a perfect blend of form and function, the X-Centric provides a power reserve of approximately 48 hours while vibrating at 28,800vph.
ABOUT THE MOVEMENT
The watch is the movement. As eccentric as it sounds, the X-Centric is a movement conceived in France and built in Switzerland. The patented movement is unique as it displays minutes, hours, and seconds with rings. It took 5 years of research and development to produce this movement. Finished intricately with hands, the X-Centric is powered by a micro-rotor and delivers a power reserve of approximately 48 hours while vibrating at 28,800 vph.
