About the Seiko 5 Sports Collection

History

Seiko arrived in watchmaking with the mindset to create a special segment targeted towards the Japanese watchmaking industry. This mindset has led to various creations and has broadened the world of watchmaking with Asian ingenuity. To further expand its watchmaking expertise, Seiko launched the Seiko Sportsmatic 5 in 1963, making it the first self-winding watch in Japan. Inspired by the Sportsmatic 5, the Seiko 5 Sports collection was launched in 1968. Since the launch of the collection, Seiko has kept the design uniform with very few changes to its DNA.

Features

A dedicated sports watch from Seiko, the 5 Sports collection is equipped with a robust case and is offered in various series. The watches inside the 5 Sports collection feature a triangular index marker on the 12 o'clock marker. This index might be fixed on the bezel or the dial making the 5 Sports particular sports watch. The collection is also home to a GMT variant with a long-central hand depicting the second time zone. Divided into various series, the 5 Sports collection can be diverse too. With the SKX Sports Style, the timepieces feature timepieces that are more inclined towards being dress watches. Whereas, the SKX Suits Style is particularly a dress watch with a beads strap. Emphasising more on the performance aspect more, the SKX Specialist Style is a more robust take on the 5 Sports. Similar to the Suits Style, the fashion aspect of this sports collection is also reflected in the SKX Street Style. Switching the crown to the 3 o'clock marker, the robust Seiko 5 Sports collection features another set of timepieces called the Field series. This Field series is home to various iterations called the Field Sports Style, Field Suits Style, Field Specialist Style, and Field Street Style.

Limited Editions

Home to a plethora of limited-edition timepieces, the Seiko 5 Sports collection is also brimming with brilliant collaborations. One such collaboration is with the streetwear brand, HUF. Launched with two iterations of the 5 Sports, the HUF Limited Edition is a vibrant addition to the collection. Another addition to the collection is the limited edition made in collaboration with Brian May, guitarist of the rock band ‘Queen'. A few other collaborations are Street Fighter, Honda SuperCub, and Evisen Skateboards.
