About the Rado DiaStar Original Collection

History

Rado was not a very well-known brand in the world of watchmaking during the 1960s. It was in 1962, the brand gained the recognition it deserved with the launch of the Rado DiaStar Original collection. This was the first scratch-resistant watch in the world and while the watchmakers were busy complicating the mechanical aspect of a timepiece, Rado solely concentrated on the aesthetical aspect of it.

Essence

The DiaStar Original fits the bill for the bold and ageless appeal of the first DiaStar. The off-beat, oval design of the watch is a reminder of the 60s DiaStar and holds a similar sleek avant-garde approach in the collection. This clean, polished set of timepieces is particularly an eye candy for some and a piece of heritage for others.

Features

Be it the baton-shaped hands or the diamond-studded index markers, the DiaStar Original is a simple yet suave on the dial. In terms of displaying matters apart from time, the DiaStar features a day/date feature window either at 6 or 3. The DiaStar Original also features a skeleton variant displaying the robust automatic movement on the dial.

ABOUT THE MOVEMENT

Rado DiaStar Original watches are powered by the calibre R764. It is a modified automatic movement based on the popular ETA 2824, featuring the signature antimagnetic Nivachron hairspring along with gold-plated plates and bridges. It provides exceptional precision in measuring hours, minutes, seconds, and date and shows the day complication as well in some timepieces. With a frequency of 28,800bph, R764 provides a whopping 80 hours of power reserve.
