About the Nomos Glashutte Metro Collection

Launched in 2014, the Nomos Glashütte Metro collection is a testament to modern minimalism and urban sophistication. Designed by Mark Braun, this collection embodies the spirit of city life, drawing inspiration from the vibrancy and energy of metropolitan environments. The name "Metro" reflects not only urban transportation but also the collection's essence—contemporary elegance and playful design. With its clean lines and subtle details, the Metro collection has quickly become one of Nomos's most celebrated series.

Design And Aesthetics

The design of the Metro collection stands out with its distinctive and refined aesthetics. The ultra-slim bezels and versatile dials create an open, airy feel, allowing for a spacious display of time. The collection features various sizes ranging from 33mm to 41mm as well as dial colours, including elegant silver, muted red, and sage green, each reflecting different aspects of urban life. The dials retain the hallmark elements of the Metro style, such as syringe-style hands and dot hour markers, while the intricate double-curved sapphire crystals enhance both visibility and luxury. Each model's compact design makes it accessible, especially for those with smaller wrists.

Movements And Iterations

At the heart of the Metro collection lies the Alpha manually wound movement, known for its precision and reliability. With a power reserve of up to 43 hours, the movement features the iconic Glashütte three-quarter plate structure, decorated with perlage and ribbing, showcasing the brand’s dedication to traditional watchmaking techniques. Few of the watches rendered in rose gold are powered by the Neomatik movement DUW 3001. The Metro models are available with either steel casebacks or sapphire crystal casebacks, allowing wearers to appreciate the intricate workings within.

The Metro collection boasts a variety of iterations, including the fairly recent Metro 33 models, which cater to those who prefer smaller timepieces. These models feature cases that measure 33mm in diameter and come in a range of dial colours, including silver, muted red, and sage green. Featuring the patented date display ring on the rim of the dial, is the Metro Neomatik 41 Update. Staying under the radar is the first Metro Date featuring a power reserve indicator between 12 and one.

ABOUT THE MOVEMENT

In 2014, Nomos created a buzz for elevating their in-house movement production by unveiling their own escapement called the Nomos Swing system. At the time and even today, while developing an in-house movement has become more common in the industry, creating a component as challenging and complex as an escapement is still rare. Hence, with the Swing system, Nomos hit the nail on the head. It is now widely used in most in-house calibres by the brand, including the manually-wound DUW 4101 that powers watches within the Tangente and Metro collections.

In addition to this trailblazing innovation, Calibre DUW 4101 includes Nomos' patented large date mechanism and has been adjusted to chronometer requisites. Measuring 2.8mm in height, this slender movement comes with the Glashütte three-quarter plate and stop work, 23 jewels, and bluish screws. It beats at a frequency of 3Hz, providing a power reserve of 42 hours. The view of this movement through the sapphire crystal caseback is rather enjoyable. From rhodium-plated surfaces to Glashütte ribbing and Nomos perlage, the craftsmanship delivered with this calibre is par excellence.
