About the Nomos Glashutte Ahoi Collection
History
In 2013, the German watchmakers launched the Nomos Glashutte Ahoi collection. The Nomos Glashutte Ahoi is the brand’s first dedicated diving watch.
Essence
Well before the advent of ‘Hello’, the naval personnel used to signal each other with a phrase called ‘Ahoy’. In German, ‘Ahoi’ was the literal translation of the said word. The Nomos Glashutte Ahoi collection is a way to commemorate that phrase. The Ahoi collection was Nomos’s first collection of watches that offered water resistance of up to 200 meters.
Features
Available in two case sizes, 40.3mm and 36.3mm, the Nomos Ahoi collection offers minimalism with ruggedness. The protected crown with rhodium-plated superluminova hands is the only giveaway of its diving nature. Apart from the rhodium-plated hands, the Ahoi collection is also available in gold-plated and oxidised black hands. Throughout the entire collection, the timepieces are equipped with a sturdy stainless steel case. Inside the Ahoi siren range, the stainless steel is complemented by funky hues such as red and blue.
Movement
The Nomos Glashutte Ahoi collection is home to robust automatic movements. The robust mechanical movements are the DUW5001, DUW5101, and DUW3001. The DUW5001 was the first automatic movement employed by Nomos. Whereas, the DUW3001 is an award-winning movement with an efficiency of 94.2%.
ABOUT THE MOVEMENT
The very first movement created by Nomos, Alpha is a fine example of traditional Glashütte watchmaking. A manual winding movement, the movement is quite different from its Swiss counterparts. Be it the conventional Glashütte stopwork which contains a long and curved jumper or the unique Glashütte perlage, the Alpha is a classic on its own. Another aspect which makes Alpha an excellent movement is its construction. More than 95% of the Alpha movement is created in Glashütte, making it one of the most authentic Glashütte movements of all. Turning to the spec sheet, the Alpha provides a power reserve of approximately 43 hours while vibrating at 21,600 vph.
